Job description

Who we are ⚡

Zinc builds automated reference and background checking tools for forward-thinking companies that really care about candidate experience. Founded in 2017, Zinc has a unique approach to background checking, that's redefining industry standards. We're an early-stage startup going through rapid growth. Zinc’s founding team have spent years in recruitment, talent, and HRTech. We saw a field plagued with inefficiency, prejudice and a lack of transparency. We first sought to solve the burden of referencing, then sought to tackle the broader category of background checking.

We're a culture first company, by this we don't just mean an active calendar of both company and team organised events 🍔🍻🎯 (which we do have 🤩), Zinc's culture is defined by a respectful and autonomous approach to all employees, fostering support for new ideas, promoting a flexible work environment, and operating within a flat structure. While socials, lunches, and events enhance the experience, the core of Zinc's culture drives employees to embrace innovation, share successes, and feel motivated about the company's future.

The big event in the Zinc calendar for team bonding is our annual retreat ✈️: in 2023 we went to Bergerac in France 🇫🇷 and for 2024 we're off to France again! 🇫🇷 (we've got seats on the plane saved for our new joiners!🥳)

🪴We recently redefined our company values:

🧩The pieces that make Zinc: Pragmatic, Integrity, Empathy, Collaborate, Empowered, Speed.

We're looking for 👀

We're looking for a product-minded developer to join our engineering team, working on prototyping, frontend development, backend development, testing, and deployments. We need someone who has experience of how different teams work, who has a desire to consolidate that knowledge and use it within a small agile team. You will have the opportunity to directly impact the product, suggest changes and new featres and influence an industry-changing product.

Your day to day 🗓

  • Collaborate with our product team to iterate on the product specification
  • Design and plan out new features with the team
  • Write technical specifications
  • Write efficient, maintainable and reusable code
  • See your new features go live quickly, they'll be appreciated by thousands of users.
  • Write unit, integration, and E2E tests
  • Actively contribute to our Engineering Guidelines
  • Work with our designer to iterate on designs

Requirements

🤗 You'd slot right in if you have:

Experience..

  • 2+ years of industry experience in a software engineering role, preferably building a SaaS product.
  • You can demonstrate significant impact that your work has had on the product and/or the team.
  • Deep knowledge of a high-level programming language (for example, Ruby, Python, Javascript etc.) It doesn't have to be a language in our tech stack, we know great people pick up new languages quickly or may introduce new things to us!

Mentality...

  • You value clean code and following best practices, design principles, and avoid anti-patterns
  • A good communicator - your documentation provides context, is clear, and up-to-date. If something is unclear, you'll ask for clarification.
  • You care about the end-users - have empathy to customers' needs, and be able to spot opportunities to improve user experience
  • Take ownership - you are proactive in updating stakeholders on your progress, rather than reactively responding to their queries
  • Experience and a desire to work with cross functional teams.
  • You're curious and always eager to understand why things do and don't work...

🧁 Any hands on experience with these would be awesome:

  • Any frontend libraries (e.g. React) or frameworks (e.g. Angular, Vue)
  • TypeScript (or other typed languages)
  • Designing consistent and efficient APIs
  • Build and test pipelines (e.g. CircleCI)
  • NoSQL databases (e.g. MongoDB)
  • Integrating with external platforms

Our stack 🥞

  • Frontend: Vue, Nuxt, Vuetify, Javascript, Webpack
  • Backend: Express.js, MongoDB, Typescript
  • Deployment: CircleCI
  • Infrastructure: DigitalOcean, Ubuntu, Docker, AWS
  • Testing: Jest, Cypress
    Salary 💰
    • £50,000 - £65,000

📍Hybrid, Central London

  • We appreciate the value of in person connection with colleagues and flexible working for our employees. We operate a hybrid model with 2 days a week in office, Mondays and Thursdays.
  • Interview Process 🤩⚡️💎
  • 1. Screening interview with Talent Associate, Bel (30 mins)
