The purpose of the role is to perform highly Skilled Mechanical repairs, inspections, maintenance and diagnostics in a professional manner working within health health and safety guidelines.
Job description
As a Fully Skilled Mechanic, you will be responsible for tasks and activities such as:
- Perform Skilled Mechanical repairs on motor vehicles ranging from Quality Control/MOT failures to completing major component overhauls and replacements
- Verify vehicle serviceability by conducting road tests, adjusting controls and systems as well as identifying and recording any applicable faults
- Participate in and/or take ownership of providing repair diagnosis, solutions and troubleshooting
- Be willing to carry out less advanced, semi-skilled jobs as per business needs when required
- Maintain vehicle job records and job cards on a daily basis as per Company’s systems and procedures
- Complete parts order forms, keep a log of and collect parts from relevant department, liaise with Management with regards to timely and effective parts ordering
- Assist in other Workshop tasks as instructed by Management, co-operate and liaise with other Workshop Team Members
- Take part in and adopt to any required training
- Move cars within the Workshop site in an efficient, professional manner whilst adhering to the Highway Code and Cargiant’s Health and Safety guidelines
- Adhere to environmental disposal practices and regulations
Duties/Responsibilities
- Performing the above tasks in a timely manner by using relevant Workshop equipment and own tools as necessary in line with vehicle-specific job cards
- Delivering a high quality outcome of repair jobs as per Cargiant’s stringent standards
- Communicating and consulting any on-job additions, issues or snags with the Management
- Where applicable, reporting any other vehicle faults found to Managers, undertaking ad hoc duties as requested by them
- Maintaining good standards of housekeeping and workmanship in accordance with Health and Safety guidelines and Company Policies
Health & Safety Responsibilities
- It is each employee’s responsibility to ensure that the environment in which they work in is safe for them and others
- This includes reporting all accidents and near misses to Management
- Reporting any potential issues which could cause harm or lead to accidents
- Handling any hazardous substances in compliance with the relevant Health and Safety regulations
- Ensuring correct usage of PPE where required
- Acting in line with standards set out in the Health and Safety Manual and Company Handbook
Essential Requirements
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent certification/proven experience) in Skilled Vehicle mechanics
- A full and valid driving licence
- Good communication skills
- Ability to work on own initiative as well as in a team
- Willing to perform any ad hoc duties in a workshop based environment
- Able to work in the outdoor elements with a flexible approach to work
