About the Team

The Finance Performance & Improvement Team is one of the central Government Finance Function teams, responsible for driving finance performance, standards (GovS006: Finance) and leading practice to achieve a vision of a modern digital finance function that delivers quality services more effectively and efficiently.

We are a twelve-person team working across a wide range of partners, providing the individual with the opportunity to be part of creating positive and long-lasting change across functional communities.

About the Job

In this role, you will:

  • Define the strategy, vision, and development roadmap for Data Assets.
  • Act as the custodian for both the structure and content of the Data Dictionary, delivering excellent change control processes as the single point of accountability for changes to data standards and their attributes.
  • Showcase excellent metadata management and embed adequate processes and procedures in product lifecycles to drive high quality outputs and standards.
  • Encouraging, supporting, and challenging data owners in the development and use of standards across the functions and government departments.
  • Establish a clear data standards ownership model across central functions, chairing cross-function data standards change boards and growing a data-literate community of practice to improve the benefits of data standardisation across the functions.
  • Engage regularly with the Cabinet Office, Central Digital and Data Office, and other leading government data functions and groups to align on Data Strategy, Data Principles, and Data Standards.

This is an exciting role for an experienced data professional, to own, govern and develop the newly created data standards and their attributes for four government functions. You will be part of a growing community of data professionals and would be supported to undertake professional development opportunities.

About You

We are looking for someone with proven experience of establishing data standards, metadata management, data structures, and expertise in data analysis. You should have excellent communication skills including the ability to translate technical information into accessible language. You should also be excellent at delivering in large and complex environments and providing high-quality leadership and management of agile projects and products. You should be able to anticipate and understand internal and external trends and practices, and encourage and share innovative ideas from diverse range of colleagues and partners to generate continuous improvement.

Qualifications in Project Management as well as Data, Technical or Service Management would be beneficial. Although applicants who are part-qualified or with sufficient relevant experience against the these qualifications, who are willing to study towards these qualifications are encouraged to apply.
