We are looking for a Functional Safety Engineer to join our client’s team in Hinckley.

The Functional Safety Senior / Engineer role is responsible for the development of safe systems from early concept to complete system design for production programs. You will work closely with the MBSE team, vehicle teams, suppliers, production, and service to ensure the Functional Safety Lifecycle is met. Senior Engineers are expected to have significantly more experience, be capable of mentoring engineers, chair work product review meetings within the Company, peer review & sign off work products etc. and in some instances, as required deputise for the Lead Engineer -FuSa.

Responsibilities:

• Interface with cross-functional teams on Functional Safety matters across the entire V-Model
•  Application areas include but are not limited to engine management systems, chassis systems such as ABS, electronic suspension & body control modules, autonomous riding systems & cyber security.
• Promote Functional Safety across the Business.
• Deliver Function Safety work products, including:

               o Item Definitions.

               o HARA’s.

               o Functional Safety Concept (including Safety Analyses and system Architectural Designs).

               o Impact Analyses.

               o Development Interface Agreements.

               o Safety Cases.

• Develop and follow best practice working procedures to support Functional Safety activities.
• Support and propose developments to the Functional Safety lifecycle.
• Support Verification and Confirmation reviews with suppliers and internal reviews
• Report project progress and timing to the Vehicle Leads.
• Communicate technical issues with the Lead Engineer – Functional Safety.
• Present status to component/project meetings and report on all actions.
• Introduce and advocate Functional Safety best practices to other Engineers.
• To undertake and assist with duties as required by your Manager.

Who We Are Looking For:

• Experience in the ISO26262 lifecycle through concept, system, hardware and software design or similar experience in aerospace, defence, power/nuclear sectors etc.

• Proficient in Microsoft packages including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• Use of tools for hazard identification, safety analyses, requirements management, change & impact management.
• Experience working in multi-functional project teams.

It Would Be an Asset If You Also Have:

• Knowledge of CAN communication.
• Working with suppliers through a DIA
• Experience with PREEvision or other MBSE tools.
• Experience in an automotive environment.
• Proficient in Systems design –modelling (UML / SysML)

Education:

• BEng or MEng in Electrical / Electronic engineering, Systems Engineering or Safety Engineering, and proven relevant experience.
