The Opportunity:
We are looking for a permanent Funeral Director to join our family business and manage the Sidmouth and Axminster offices. You will be working alongside a friendly Funeral Arranger in each office and be supported by the wider A.J. Wakely & Sons team as and when required.

Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and oversee all aspects of funeral services, including arranging transportation, preparing the deceased for burial or cremation, and coordinating with clergy and other service providers
- Meet with families to discuss funeral arrangements, including choice of casket or urn, type of service, and location
- Assist families in making decisions regarding burial or cremation, embalming, and other funeral-related services
- Prepare necessary legal documents, such as death certificates and burial permits
- Arrange for the transportation of the deceased to the funeral home or other designated location
- Coordinate and supervise funeral processions and visitations
- Provide grief counseling and support to bereaved families
Requirements:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational and time management abilities
- Ability to handle sensitive situations with empathy and compassion
- Knowledge of funeral service regulations and procedures
- Proficient in computer software used for funeral home operations
- Ability to lift heavy objects (such as caskets) and stand for extended periods of time
