Funeral Director

Permanent Full Time

Based at any of our five sites.

We have an exciting new opportunity for a Funeral Director with Green Willow Funerals.

We have been established for over 25 years, with 6 dedicated Funeral Directors, we are one of the largest Funeral Directors across South Wales operating from 5 locations based across Cardiff, Dinas Powys, and Newport. As a social enterprise, we donate our profits to our charity commission registered Shareholder, Cardiff YMCA (1910) Trust, which grants donations to fund local community projects in the area.

Objectives of the role

Support the business by providing Funeral Director services to all clients requiring our professional services, both pre-need and at-need. They’ll provide compassionate support to the bereaved family as well as assist with tasks including funeral plans and on-call. They will also have an in-depth knowledge of funeral customs across a variety of faiths and denominations.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

You will work closely with the Funeral Service Manager and General manager to ensure the highest standard of funerals for our families. The primary duties of a Funeral Director include preparing for the funeral, managing operations during the funeral, and administrative tasks to support funeral homes and their families.

These also include:

· Meet with clients in a variety of settings and locations, to assist and advise on all aspects of funeral arrangements.

· Liaise with professionals (Bereavement Services, Crematorium and Cemetery staff, Religious and Humanist Officiants, Florists, Stone Masons, Printers etc.) as required.

· Understand and update knowledge of formal administrative processes and forms regarding authority for cremation and burial.

· Complete forms and paperwork connected with all aspects of the role.

· Operate computerised and online management systems as required.

· Prepare quotations and communicate and record prices promptly and accurately.

· Record receipt of valuables as required and ensure their safekeeping.

· Assist with arrangements for viewing of the deceased (this may involve negotiating times with colleagues and clients, preparing the deceased, ensuring the viewing area is clean and presentable, etc.)

· Following due procedures to ensure the identity of the deceased ahead of closing coffins ahead of funeral services.

· Organising, assisting, or overseeing the pre-placement of coffins for funeral services.

· Organising, assisting, or overseeing the removal of the deceased into the home, church, or other venue ahead of a funeral service

· Oversee the preparation and care of cremated remains.

· Issuing clear instructions to Funeral Service Operatives (Advance party, drivers, and bearers) ahead of each funeral service

· Promote and as required complete pre-need and pre-paid funeral plans with clients.

· Taking a place on the ‘on-call’ rota as required

· Work cooperatively with staff colleagues in Green Willow Funerals Ltd.

Requirements

  • Previous experience of working as a Funeral Director is essential.
  • An empathetic nature and a willingness to serve and support clients at a difficult time (the death and loss of a loved one / friend)
  • A level of fitness and capability to undertake and assist with physical aspects of the job (e.g. assisting with the removal of deceased from the place of death)
  • Punctuality and a consistently high standard of organisational skills.
  • The ability to relate to and communicate (verbally, in writing, and electronically) clearly and effectively with a wide range of people: bereaved clients, fellow FDs, Management, Mortuary Staff, Funeral Service Operatives (drivers and bearers), staff working in Bereavement Services Departments at Crematoria and Cemeteries
  • A temperament and organisational skills to manage multiple tasks and work to deadlines.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to equal opportunities and the ability to implement it.
  • A qualification in Funeral Arranging from the NAFD is desirable but not essential.
  • A willingness to embody and represent the values and ethos of Green Willow Funerals.
