Gas Quality Trainee Craftsperson
Starting salary of £30,515 rising to £40,414 when fully competent
Overtime and standby + incentive scheme + van
Gas Quality training will be provided with the opportunity to cross flex into other disciplines within NGN
Located across Yorkshire primarily Pontefract

We have an amazing opportunity to join us as a Gas Quality Trainee Craftsperson(GQTC), covering all Gas Quality activities across the network.  The role of a GQTC is an essential one as you will be the responsible for sampling and reviewing the quality of all gas flowing through the network. You will be trained to diagnose faults on Gas Quality equipment, to report non-compliance of samples, assist with emergency Gas Quality analysis and to provide support to other areas of the business where required. 

To be successful in the role, you must be confident to work alone or as part of a team and you must hold a full UK driving licence and be comfortable driving for long periods of time. You will be comfortable working on all pressure tiers on the NGN network. Be advised the role requires manual handling activities, including replacing gas bottles at site.  You will be expected to partake in a standby rota, covering unsociable hours to ensure Gas Quality analysis can be obtained 24/7. Alongside these points you must be comfortable undertaking Rhinology activities.

Your key accountabilities and responsibilities will include
•    Obtain gas samples from specified sites on the NGN network, as per the maintenance plan
•    Perform sample analysis using gas chromatographs located at network depots
•    Inspect and check site chromatographs as per the maintenance plan
•    Monitor test gas bottles and arrange replacement as required
•    Lead on gas examiner visits at sites as per inspection requirements
•    Perform emergency gas identification to support teams across NGN
•    Re-calibration of rhinologists in team
•    Support line management in required decision making, based on gas analysis
•    Collate data and analyse for inconsistencies 
•    Generate reports on analysis for management and stakeholders
•    Partake in a standby rota for out of hours Gas Quality support
•    Support with colleague training and mentorship as required

What we are looking for in our GQTC
•    Minimum GCSE in Maths, English & Science at Level 4 or above
•    Eligible to work in the UK
•    A self-starter with an understanding of the importance of a zero-tolerance safety culture and delivering excellent customer service every time with the ability to communicate with colleagues, customers, and members of the public 
•    Available to attend training courses as required
•    Willing to work the variable shift patterns and participate in an out of hours' standby rota and be fit enough to meet the physical demands of the role
•    IT skills – working with Word / Excel

Desirable Qualifications
•    ONC / BTEC in Engineering Discipline (ideally Electrical or Instrument) or NVQ Level 3 in Engineering Discipline (ideally Electrical or Instrument)
•    EUSR
•    Compex 1-4 Foundation +
•    SCO 1&2
•    GNEM 2&4
•    DNV DANIT Training and DNV Rhinology Training
•    Perkin Elmer Training and Emersons Chromatograph Training

What we Offer
•    £30,515 rising to £40,414 per annum
•    A company van and all tools required for the role
•    41.25 hours per week on a variable work pattern including standby
•    Incentive scheme- additional earnings of up to £3,000 per annum
•    25 days holiday per year, plus 8 days bank holiday, plus 2 half days (Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve)
•    SSP for first 7 calendar days then Occupational sick pay
