Apply today!Job Introduction The Learning & Activities Department delivers a wide range of educational and vocational activities for the 700 prisoners and seeks to invest in a passionate, open-minded, patient, and innovative instructor to join the team. Reporting to a Team Leader, the role would suit someone with extensive knowledge and experience in delivering various forms of education in a classroom setting. You should possess the patience and ability to pass on these skills and experience to others in the knowledge that this could help to change their lives for the better.  The position is diverse, thought-provoking and challenging/rewarding in equal measures.   Main ResponsibilitiesPlan courses and programmes to deliver training.Report on prisoners’ progress and collaborate with colleagues to improve sentence management, increase core skills and prepare prisoners for release.Encourage, support and sustain prisoners seeking to broaden their life and practical skills.Work with colleagues in SQA and have a knowledge of external awarding bodies.To liaise with prison staff, allocations staff and actively recruit new. To provide a wide range of progressive and stimulating material to prisoners in conjunction with an overseeing tutor. To prepare prisoners for assessments where appropriate and encourage demonstrable learning outcomes.To utilise these skills as means of focusing prisoners on alternative life choices to criminality. To contribute to the preparation of prisoners who wish to further their education post-release.Any other reasonable professional duties at the request of your Line manager. Ensure compliance with relevant teaching, quality assurance and testing/assessment guidelines. Please see attached job description for further information regarding the role requirements The Ideal CandidateSkills/Experience Required:  We need Instructors with previous experience in a training environment or who can demonstrate they have the necessary skills to teach others Hold SCQF Level 7 in a teaching discipline – or equivalent. Those without the relevant qualification would be given the opportunity to gain the qualification within 18 months of starting to practise.Candidates should have knowledge of the principles and practices of adult education; knowledge of instructional planning and teaching methods; skill in use of assessment instruments; ability to develop appropriate educational goals and objectives and an ability to establish and maintain an effective learning environment.  Strong organisational skills – both in terms of people and materialsKnowledge of relevant health and safety legislationFlexibility of work: Evenings and Weekends will be required.  Personal Qualities Patience and a calm mannerAbility to adjust teaching style to suit different learning styles.Excellent communication and good organisational skills. Proficient IT skills and comfortable with MOS package. Good problem-solving skills.Team Player. Have an interest in the rehabilitation and resettlement of offendersHave an ability to always communicate effectively through different mediums, including spoken and written communication.Experience of instructing/supporting challenging individuals / Experience in a prison environmentAbility to deliver a range of subjects or courses to learnersJoin Sodexo and be part of something greater.
