Job Description

General Manager

Responsible To:

Nominated Club Officials (Flag Officers)

Responsible For:

Bar staff, Kitchen Manager, office staff and team members

Salary/contract:

£26-29k with Service Occupancy (2 bedroom self-contained flat with great views!) required to reside on premises to fulfil the role

Hours:

Full Time

Hours to suit the needs of the business, minimum 40 hours per week

Purpose of the Role:

Penarth is an idyllic seaside town on the South Coast of Wales, with its own Victorian Pier and our Yacht Club (founded 1880) forming a cornerstone of the community and our members’ lives. We’re a members’ sailing and rowing club first, we also have an exciting calendar of social events including supporting our town Carnival, open days, sports events and members’ special occasions.

This is a fantastic opportunity for the right individual to lead, develop and enable our team extending to 13 individuals (working various full and part-time hours) by providing the necessary skills, knowledge and hands on support to deliver an exceptional and efficient Customer service experience in all aspects of the club’s activities.

We’ll also work with you to agree plans and performance/service standards to grow membership, develop operations and enhance the sustainable long-term future of the club. Your responsibility will extend to all non-sport related activities, which are managed through member committees.

Main Responsibilities:

Process & Compliance

· Complying with all statutory and Club requirements including cash management, H&S, Food Safety and licensing

· In conjunction with the Clubs committees, develop a quarterly events program to encourage the active participation of members

· Managing Food and Liquor stock control, rotation and distribution, maintaining effective cellar management and maintaining hygiene standards throughout

· With the support of the Club Secretary, ensure all documentation is up to date, organised and maintained

· Attend and report appropriate activities to the Wine and the Social sub committees

· Attend the main Club Committee meetings to update on activities and take feedback

Customer Service

· Provide an outstanding level of customer service by liaising and building a rapport with both Club members and non-members

· Develop and maintain the image, perception and integrity of the PYC

· Build and maintain excellent working relationships with key internal and external partners

· Deal with Customer complaints in a professional and timely way

· Proactively manage guest feedback and social media to continuously improve the offer

People & Teams

· Manage, lead and train a team to successfully deliver a great customer experience

· Ensure all relevant information is communicated clearly to the team

· Establish clear ways of working, with KPIs agreed for the team and provide ongoing feedback on individual performance and behaviour.

· Organise all recruitment activity as required to ensure quality, skills and legal standards are maintained

· Ensure compliance to all people related policies

Sales Generation

· In coordination with the appropriate sub-committees and Nominated Club Official, formulate an annual Business Plan with reviews quarterly

· Drive sales performance of Team to maximise all sales opportunities

· Work with the Social sub-committee to organise and coordinate events to increase sales performance

· Positively promote and execute all events, new promotions, marketing activities, menu and product launches on time and to a high standard.

· Drive, monitor and respond to social media to enhance the Clubs image and proactively promote the business

Profit & Cost Control

· Conduct regular review of financial performance with direct reports

· Monitor and adjust payroll costs to reflect sales forecasts to ensure the delivery of all agreed targets.

· Ensure payroll related documentation is in line with company standards and deadlines using the payroll system to ensure accuracy.

· Manage, control and seek ways to reduce operating costs in line with business levels

· Monitor profitability and performance to ensure sales targets are met or exceeded

· Undertake regular food and liquor line checks to monitor GP

· Ensure orders are placed with nominated suppliers to maximise GP and reduce waste

Communication

· Ensure that the activities across the Club are communicated in a clear and timely manner

· Liaise with the Club Secretary to ensure all admin processes are dealt with properly

· Ensure that any risk to legal or reputational issues is communicated quickly to the Club Secretary

· Maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality when communicating with the wide range of Key Contacts at the Club
