General Operative

We are seeking ambitious and experienced General Operatives for our client, Smurfit Kappa based in Lurgan. Smurfit Kappa operate across 36 countries with around 46,000 employees in over 350 production sites. Their shared purpose is to create sustainable products and solutions that are essential, to protect what they, and their stakeholders, care about; and to care about their customers, the wider community, and the planet. The primary focus of this role is to ensure the maximum productivity on machinery, highest quality whilst ensuring the machinery runs consistently to the highest tolerances and minimum waste in a safe manner..

5 GCSEs or equivalent with at least a grade C in English and Mathematics at GCSE level or equivalent

Proven successful experience in a working in a manufacturing environment for at least 2 years

Experience in a site with ISO 9001, 14001 and 18001 systems or equivalent

Highly motivated, driven, proactive, can do attitude

Strong people and interpersonal skills that is able to communicate effectively and appropriately across all levels

Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to be flexible, prioritise workload, manage complexity and adapt to changing conditions whilst meeting strict deadlines

Practical problem solving skills with strong root cause corrective action capabilities, including the ability to manage conflicting work demands, multitask and work under pressure in a dynamic and challenging environment

Excellent analytical skills with the ability to manage complexity

A positive, independent thinker, resourceful, logical, systematic, strategic and demonstrates initiative

The ability to work independently or as part of a team

Self-confident and willing to share information openly

Ability to communicate effectively using the English language

Time served qualification in a maintenance/engineering related discipline

Experience in working in a corrugated packaging site

Trained in the operation of corrugated packaging machinery

Experience of setting up machinery

Leadership Training or Qualification (i.e. ILM Level 3)

LEAN qualification (i.e. Green Belt / Yellow Belt)

Experience in shop floor data collection systems

Experience in a site with BRC accredited direct food contact systems or equivalent

IOSH qualification or equivalent safety knowledge and training

Mechanical / Electrical / Process aptitude

Proficient IT skills with knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Powerpoint, Word and Excel

LEAN practical experience (5S, SMED, RCCA, Kaizen)
