We are looking for a motivated General Operative/ Relief QC to join our packhouse nightshift.
General Operative
- Ability to quickly assess product as it passes over the line and remove any that obviously does not meet the requested standard.
- When moving around the factory, please clean up any debris you may see.
- Cleaning - between, during and after production runs, always ensuring that you are following clean as you go procedures.
- If requested, setting up the grading line may be necessary…this may involve operating the machinery (i.e. installing screens and topper beds) machinery must be operated as per the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
- Can involve lifting heavy weights up to 25kg (assistance can be given).
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Possibility of relief forklift driving (as and when required) training for the right candidate can be given.
- Ability to use barcode scanner to scan product into and out of lines (as and when required).
- Possibility of career progression for the right candidate.
- Report any issues with your line to your immediate Line Leader or Supervisor (issues with machinery, product quality or packing)
Relief QC - (step up rate payable for all hours worked as a relief QC)
- Ensure accurate checking of codes /dates/ promotional labels etc., on the Greenlight Checks.
- Take reference photos to aid in traceability and prove/support with the legal compliance.
- Undertake finished product quality checks: records findings and highlight any discrepancies to QA, re-assess to make sure the product meets specification.
- Visually check packaging print / colour/clarity, take reference photos and appropriate action for any discrepancies identified.
- Communicating effectively on quality issues with other internal departments and ensure action is taken promptly.
- Provide our customers with products that meet their specification at all times.
- Support and advise production in relation to quality requirements.
- To inspect the quality of finished product against customer specifications, and if required, to explain the specification to members of staff.
- Work together with the team to implement corrective action to improve the quality of the product to within specification.
- To notify the Team Leader/Management team of any quality or processing issues and to explain what the required quality levels should be as laid out in the customer specifications.
- Keep your work area in a good, clean condition and follow the clean as you go procedure.
- Carry out various audits: glass & plastic, document control, procedure and process, GMP.
- Make sure the product traceability is being followed throughout the process.
Person Specification:
- Be thorough and have a good attention to detail
- The ability to work as part of team
- Able to work to strict deadlines and follow instructions and be flexible with duties
- Have a good understanding of English, both written and verbal
- Be able to carry out basic tasks on a computer or hand-held device
- Ideally have previous QC experience within the food industry
- Patience and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations
- The ability to accept constructive criticism and work well under pressure
- Excellent verbal communication skills
Step up rate payable for all hours worked as a relief QC.

Salary: £11.60-£12.66 per hour
