General Support (Canteen Assistant and/or Cleaner)

Mowi Feed is the feed manufacturing division within Mowi, the Global leader in salmon farming, processing and marketing. Having entered production in June 2014, Mowi Feed has quickly established itself as a competitive supplier of salmon feed playing a key role in supporting Mowi Farming in its delivery of high quality, nutritious, safe and sustainable salmon.

Currently operating from its factories in Kyleakin, Isle of Skye in Scotland and in Valsneset in the Trøndelag Region of Norway, Mowi Feed has an annual production volume in the order of 500,000 tonnes per year. We manufacture a broad portfolio of conventional and organic feeds for both fresh and seawater phases of salmon growth in Scotland, Ireland, the Faroe Islands, Iceland and Norway.

The Role –

Part-time GENERAL SUPPORT (CANTEEN ASSISTANT) or Full-time GENERAL SUPPORT (CANTEEN ASSISTANT / CLEANER)

Mowi Fish Feed is seeking to recruit a suitable candidate to perform all support duties associated with our catering and laundry facilities at site if part-time, or catering, laundry and cleaning if full-time.

The successful candidate will support our Cook with general kitchen tasks, including food preparation, and will also be responsible for laundry on a daily basis to ensure our colleagues in the factory have clean and readily available work wear for their shifts.

If part-time, the candidate will also assist on an ad hoc basis with the cleaning of the offices, common areas, toilets and welfare spaces (showers/changing rooms) should cover be required or, if full-time, undertaking these tasks daily.

The main duties and responsibilities will include:

• undertaking basic food preparation activities, including washing, peeling and cutting vegetables;
• placing and replacing food on the server over the lunch period;
• washing up, cleaning and clearing all kitchen and canteen areas, to ensure the areas are well presented and maintained in good condition;
• general and deep cleans of the canteen and kitchen areas (work surfaces, floors and walls), equipment and appliances, through understanding and implementing cleaning procedures and requirements of different surfaces and equipment;
• following proper food handling and safety procedures
• stocking fridges and vending machines;
• unloading and putting away deliveries, while following stock rotation;
• undertaking a full laundry service, which can include staff uniforms and bedding from on-site accommodation;
• covering for cook’s or contract cleaners' absence as may be required;
• (if full-time) ensuring the offices, common areas, and welfare spaces are kept clean, tidy and well maintained;
• undertaking other ad-hoc duties to support the site in general, and commensurate with the grade of this post.

Desirable Qualifications/Skills required for this role:

• Prior experience of working in a kitchen or culinary environment
• Cleaning experience in office environment or similar, and a working knowledge of cleaning standards and methods
• Relevant certificates e.g. basic food safety and hygiene, manual handling, chemical awareness,

The place of work will be in the Mowi Fish Feed Plant (factory) at Kyleakin and the position reports to the Facilities Manager. This is a permanent position which two options:

• part-time at 25 hours per week, with the start/finish times proposed as 09:30am to 2:30pm; or
• full-time hours of 40 hours per week, with cleaning duties for the full welfare/office building added onto the tasks listed above. The start/finish times for this option is proposed as 7:00am to 3:30pm, with lunch breaks unpaid.

These options are open to discussion, with some flexibility in the proposed start/finish times with the right candidate. A salary in the range of £23,966 - £28,121 per annum (or £11.52 to £13.52 per hour) is offered, depending on experience. On the job training will be provided where appropriate.
