About the role
Due to the continued growth of our business, we are seeking to strengthen our management team by offering the role to manage the future genetic progression of Cefn Genetics. The role will be based in Clifton Queensland and will involve regular travel to client farms throughout Australia.
As Genetics Manager your main objective is to provide leadership to the Cefn Genetics team as well as providing support to clients whilst reporting directly to the Cefn Board Members. You will be taking an active role in decision making and influencing the future of the Cefn herd.
The position requires you to direct and facilitate the collection of phenotypic data and apply it to genetic selection. You will be leading an experienced team of ten staff with practical, administrative and technological knowledge.
Tasks and responsibilities
- Phenotypic data collection such as but not limited to ultrasound and tissue sampling
- Genomic data analysis
- Lineal program maintenance (PigBlup)
- Nucleus and Multiplier genetic management
- Providing excellent support to Cefn Genetics clients
- Understand genetic management tools to guide your team
- Successfully manage and lead team to achieve best possible outcomes
Required experience
- Bachelor's degree in Agricultural/or Animal Science
- Sound knowledge of commercial pig production
- Prior management experience
- Extensive experience in Microsoft Office particularly Excel and Access
Desired skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of linear programming
- Mathematically sound
- Familiar with data collection and presentation
