As a Geo-Environmental Engineer at Avove, you will play a crucial role in developing and supporting our geo-environmental projects. You will work closely with experienced professionals, contributing to site investigations, environmental assessments, and engineering solutions that address complex environmental challenges.
Projects will typically include water and wastewater; infrastructure and non-infrastructure works design.
This is a hybrid position, with homeworking and working from our office in Birmingham.
Key responsibilities:
- Pre-Site Investigations: Assist in conducting site assessments, phase 1 geo-environmental and geotechnical desk study reports, conceptual site models, and geo-environmental specifications;
- Site Investigations: Liaise with client and contractors during SI, advise on installation and monitoring for environmental purposes (ie ground gas monitoring, contamination monitoring), soil and groundwater sampling schedules and geotechnical sampling schedule. Analyse data to assess environmental conditions and potential risks;
- Report Preparation: Collaborate with the team to prepare detailed technical reports, including Geo Environmental interpretive report, environmental impact assessments, remediation plans, and geo-environmental analyses. Ensure reports adhere to industry standards and regulations;
- Produce engineering drawings, reports and undertake site surveys;
- Develop designs in accordance with the client’s requirements and relevant design standards to achieve fit for purpose and cost-effective solutions;
- Data Analysis: Analyse and interpret geotechnical and environmental data to support project decision-making. Utilise software tools for data analysis and modelling;
- Prepare and present engineering solutions to others (drawings, reports, calculations, etc);
- Regulatory Compliance: Stay updated on environmental regulations and ensure that project activities comply with relevant laws, standards and permits;
- Field Work: Participate in fieldwork, including site visits, sample scheduling, and environmental monitoring. Assist in overseeing contractors and subcontractors during site activities;
- Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including geologists, hydrogeologists, and environmental scientists, to develop comprehensive solutions for clients;
- Health and Safety: Promote and maintain a strong safety culture by adhering to safety protocols and guidelines during fieldwork and project activities;
- Bachelor's degree in Geo-Environmental Engineering or a related field.
- Strong academic record with a focus on geotechnical and geo-Environmental Engineering, engineering geology, soil mechanics, and environmental science.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in geotechnical and environmental data analysis software.
- Knowledge of relevant environmental regulations and permitting processes.
- Computer literate and conversant with the MS Office suite with a basic knowledge of engineering packages such as AutoCAD
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel for fieldwork.
