An exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team of Geospatial Information Specialists who play a pivotal role helping others to unlock a deeper understanding of the world's oceans.
About the UK Hydrographic Office (UKHO)
We are a world-leading centre for hydrography, specialising in marine geospatial data to support safe, secure and thriving oceans. We fulfil the UK government’s Safety of Life at Sea obligations and are relied upon by defence users, government and global shipping.
The role
As a Geospatial Information Specialist, you will join the Bathymetric team, who support the provision of quality data that is used by commercial shipping companies and the Royal Navy.
The remit of the team is evolving, and we are building our capability to support current and emerging requirements for hydrographic and bathymetric expertise at the UK Hydrographic Office.
Our team includes specialists with different levels of experience, including team members who have developed as specialists whilst at the UKHO. We place a high value on developing our people and you will have a great opportunity to develop your skills and experience in this role.
You will support the team, undertaking the validation, databasing, analysis and archiving of bathymetric data. You will ensure that the quality of the data meets UKHO standards before being incorporated into the CARIS BathyDataBASE and passed to other operations and production teams within UKHO to update our products.
What we are looking for
We are looking for team players who can deliver at pace to meet fluid requirements both in terms of bathymetric data receipt and validation, and in providing outcomes for customers.
Practitioner level experience/understanding of all types of bathymetric data processing is essential, as is practitioner level experience in using CARIS HIPs & SIPs and BASE Editor (or equivalent GIS software e.g. ArcGIS).
Attention to detail and experience in using relevant bathy processing software to manage large datasets are also key for the role.
In return
UKHO is a great place in which to explore your career potential. While our projects are career-defining, the work/life balance that we can offer you is equally exceptional. From flexitime, flexible working, an award-winning office environment and a generous annual leave allowance of 34.5 days including public holidays, the opportunities open to you here are hard to beat.
