Job description

Buro Happold has an exciting opportunity for a Global Finance PMO (Portfolio Management Officer) to join our busy Finance team in Bath.

The key accountability of the role is around underpinning the achievement of the Buro Happold future growth strategy through people-centred digital transformation and related change projects.

You will play a key part in stakeholder management between Finance, IT and Engineering teams to ensure the Finance strategy aligns with the Engineering strategy and the overall 1/3/6 Growth Plan.

You will implement governance from start to end of the project life-cycle and apply in-depth knowledge and specialist skills in tracking and monitoring the delivery of a range of Finance projects led by Subject Matter Experts (SMEs).

You will need to draw upon skills and experience in change management to include forming a clear vision for the need for change and the communication of the impacts and benefits, to ensure the right projects are delivered with the right resources.

What will success look like:

  • You will provide support and actively contribute to the Programme Steering Groups, led by SMEs, while also establishing the governance and controls required to support the successful delivery of projects with measurable ROIs and KPIs.
  • You will use your ability to develop strong internal and external networks to be able to communicate the Finance plan for business improvements as well as governing the implementation plan.
  • You will be the single point of contact for Finance improvement projects (Controls, processes and Systems).
  • You will work collaboratively with the Director of Strategic and Change Projects Office (SCPO), to ensure that all Finance projects follow the company-wide project methodology and governance framework, to ensure consistency.

Key duties:

Your day-to-day responsibilities will be varied and diverse and you will be excited by opportunities to develop your skills across all areas of finance with an emphasis on innovation; however, your primary focus areas will include the following:


Portfolio Management

  • Provide support and actively contribute to the Programme Steering Groups.
  • Establish governance and controls to ensure the successful delivery of projects with measurable ROIs and KPIs.
  • Providing accurate, timely and concise reporting to SMEs to ensure accountability for delivery.
  • To maintain a central document repository or master Project Directory and be the central point for information collation on projects. Provide a single picture of all finance projects across the business
  • Capture resource requirements, capacity and identify future need
  • Create, build and deliver Management of dashboards to identify KPIs and metrics to support decision-making

Delivery Monitoring

  • Support SMEs in the definition/production of Business Cases (to include scope, goals, deliverables, costs, timescales, plans, dependencies, resource requirements and milestones)
  • Produce project status reports on time, budget and quality standards and highlight any projects that are not performing as expected.
  • Support post-implementation reviews and identify any lessons learned. Create a central log so that themes can be drawn out from lessons learned.
  • Manage Benefits capture and conduct Business Benefits realisation reviews to evaluate outcomes.

Your skills and experience:

  • Project management qualification - Prince2, APMP or other relevant institution
  • Degree qualified in relevant field with expert levels of technology skills highly desirable
  • Knowledge of project management tools and techniques
  • Proven communication and relationship skills

Experience and Qualities:

  • Experience of successfully delivering projects with global teams for different business streams
  • Proven organisational skills and comfortable with scheduling, coordinating and facilitating at all levels of the organisation
  • Experience of influencing stakeholders and sponsors, demonstrated by interpersonal excellence with differing levels of seniority - from graduate to executive level
  • Experience of designing and executing large-scale change programmes in a professional services environment
  • Understanding business context and strategic goals and how to translate functional and technical requirements into a sustainable solution.

  • Appreciation of skills required for engineering design, consultancy and advisory services
