About the role
The purpose of the Global Sustainability Commercial Director role is to drive actions to make our products, brands and categories more environmentally sustainable and health inclusive (contributing to our externally committed goals) and to leverage those actions as a growth driver with consumers, customers and experts.
The role is part of the Global Sustainability leadership team, reporting to the VP, Sustainability who in turn reports into the Chief Corporate Affairs Officer on the Haleon Executive Team (HET).
Key responsibilities
Partner with the Global Sustainability Lead team to drive actions to make our products, brands and categories more environmentally sustainable and health inclusive.Contribute to Enterprise strategy development and key workstreams (e.g. Access Strategy), working closely with the VP Sustainability and Global Strategy team to ensure sustainability is baked into Haleon’s Enterprise strategy and relevant strategic workstreams.Develop and deliver Haleon’s strategy to leverage sustainability as a growth driver with consumers, customers and experts – identifying how to commercialise our environmental sustainability and health inclusivity strategy, commitments and delivery across the four quadrants of the Repeatable Growth Model.Meaningful and distinctive brands: Pilot, codify and roll out best practise approach to delivering impactful brand purpose into action platforms and programs across our Power Brands, maximising our opportunity to ‘do good’, and ‘do good business’ by contributing towards our 50mio Health Inclusivity goal and delivering against brands’ priority business jobs to be done. Category Driving Innovation: Pilot, codify and roll out best practise approach to hardwiring sustainability in a relevant way to brands’ core innovation to increase relevance, distinctiveness and purchase intent. Embed this approach into the Front-End Innovation (FEI), Category, Brand and Business Units innovation processes. Identify opportunities to drive growth and impact by addressing underserved and unmet consumer needs in order to improve health inclusivity (e.g. by designing products to actively include underserved communities or developing solutions which overcome healthcare accessibility barriers). Identify opportunities to drive growth and impact by developing solutions which protect people from the growing threat of environmental aggressors on health (e.g. growing impact of climate change and air pollution). Systematically build claims capability as we achieve key milestones against our external goals e.g. how to make and activate compelling claims around ‘made with 100% renewable electricity’; ‘made with sustainably sourced mint’Expert & Advocate recommended: Pilot, codify and roll out how to leverage environmental sustainability and health inclusivity to drive greater engagement with Health Care Professionals (HCPs), increasing sign up to Haleon Health Portal and brand recommendation. Identify how to best engage HCPs in taking action in their own practises and with their patients to reduce their environmental impact and drive greater health inclusion.Out Execute: Pilot, codify and roll out approaches to leverage sustainability as a growth driver with retailers by: embedding joint sustainability objectives into Joint Business Plans (JBPs); developing strategic partnerships on shared priorities (e.g. Health Inclusivity); activating environmental and health inclusivity initiatives in store and through DCom to drive penetration, share, sales uplift and ROI; qualifying our SKUs for high growth sustainable choices ranges (e.g. Amazon Climate Pledge)Embed sustainability into Haleon’s DNA – by embedding into key marketing and commercial processes so it becomes ‘baked in’ not ‘bolt on’, with focus on RGM; Category, Brand, Customer and Business Unit strategy and growth plans; Innovation & claims processes; Brand PurposeDevelop and deliver capability building programs and tools to grow capability fast. Enable best practise sharing and rapid learning transfer by convening Communities of Practise, with focus on Comex/Out Execute with retailers, Brand Purpose into Action, Sustainable Innovation & ClaimsQualifications and skills - Essential
15yrs+ experience in brand marketingDeep expertise and experience in developing brand and category driving innovation including, experience in developing sustainable and/or inclusive innovation which ‘does good and does good business’ – actively contributing to corporate level environmental and/or social goals.Experience in leveraging sustainability as a growth driver with retailers – partnering with retailers to activate in store and to develop joint initiatives to address environmental and/or social issues.Deep expertise and experience in brand building – crafting compelling brand positioning/brand heart and successful brand growth plans including, experience in developing and executing successful brand purpose programs and campaigns.Experience in engaging expert audiences (ideally healthcare professionals) in environmental and social actions to drive corporate and brand reputation and recommendation. Experience in enlisting the support of experts in partnering to increase the scale and impact of actions to reduce environmental impact or create positive social impact. Experience in building and delivering capability building across the marketing and commercial function – piloting, then codifying best practise approaches and engaging colleagues across the business to scale up our impact.Experience in integrating sustainability into core business processes to make this ‘part of how we work around here’ – ensuring sustainability is ‘built in’, not ‘bolt on’.
