Job Title: Governance Officer (2 Posts)
Department: Legal, Governance and Programmes
Contract Type: Permanent
Grade: 6
Salary: £33,823.29 - £40,242.29 per annum inclusive pro rata
Location: Bloomsbury, London
Hours: 35 per week
As a Governance Officer, you will play a pivotal role in supporting formal committees and programme boards for the University, ensuring the seamless execution of meetings and events. Your responsibilities will encompass arranging and minuting formal meetings, preparing papers, managing action points, and providing professional assistance. Additionally, you will be responsible for planning, administrating, and supporting events, as well as maintaining websites using a content management system. Your ability to manage large in-person and hybrid events, including setting up remote meeting technologies, will be essential.

About the Department:
This role sits within the Governance Directorate, which is the central core of providing independent support and advice across a range of governance and compliance functions for the School.
The Governance Directorate supports the effective functioning, development and enhancement of the governance framework of the University to ensure good governance and decision making, and oversees the University’s response to its internal and external governance-related regulatory responsibilities.
About the Role:
SOAS is looking to appoint two Governance Officers who will support the delivery of governance related activities and projects. This includes supporting a range of committees and groups, preparing agendas and minutes to tight deadlines. Experience in risk management / policy / insurance is not essential.
About you:
You will be proactive and willing to take responsibility and ownership for your area of work. You will show commitment to ensuring that the services we provide are effective and well managed through a robust governance framework.
You will need to demonstrate:
That you are educated to degree level or have equivalent experience
Significant experience of efficient and effective running of committee meetings, preparing agendas, taking minutes and ensuring the committees are run appropriately and in line with Terms of Reference
Experience of providing timely and comprehensive advice and guidance to others on regulatory, procedural or policy issues
Exceptional organisational skills and attention to detail
Excellent IT skills (including Word and use of MS Teams)
Excellent communication skills
