Job description

Our client is one of the largest privately owned partnerships of consulting engineers in the UK. The firm employs over 500 staff operating from 15 principal offices and other locations through partnering arrangements with various clients, contractors and fellow consultants.

They are looking for a graduate in the geotechnical team in Glasgow

They have a wide portfolio of work at the moment, but the most common projects comprise:

  • Geotechnical and environmental ground investigations for residential, commercial and industrial properties;
  • Geotechnical ground investigations for transportation projects (mainly roads);
  • Development and verification of soil remediation strategies at residential sides, including placement of clean capping and installation of gas membranes;
  • Earthworks projects comprising the excavation and placement of fills;
  • Inspection of natural and cut soil and rock slopes alongside rail and roads and at historic properties (castles, etc) followed by stability modelling and, if necessary, design of remedial works;
  • Reactive inspections of rockfalls and landslides and design of remediation/ stabilisation works.

Skills

  • Bachelors in Civil Engineering or a related discipline with enthusiasm about working in the geotechnical field.
  • Some understanding of geotechnical, and structural principles.
  • Excellent organisation skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Previous experience within a team environment.

Graduate engineers will be involved in a variety of projects from the get-go, working within a supportive team and guided by senior staff. The role would be both office-based and site-based.

Graduate civil/ geotechnical engineers are mentored and supervised in their training and development by delegated engineers and supervising civil engineers, they run accredited Graduate Training Schemes which provide structured training towards Chartership and help develop a strong technical background. All staff are encouraged and supported to develop their technical, management and business experience to enable growth into project and business delivery roles.
