Job Description
At HS2 we offer a two-year rotational graduate programme, providing you with the opportunity to stretch and challenge yourself across various programme related placements. This programme is designed around enabling you to get as much experience as possible across the engineering function. After completion of the 2-year graduate programme graduates will be transferred into a role within the same discipline, but not necessarily the same business area.
We have x3 graduate opportunities available in London which will require travel to various site locations across the HS2 line of route. Graduate opportunities will be available across a variety of HS2 teams including but not limited to those listed below. After the assessment stage, we will assign successful candidates accordingly based on business requirements.
Engineering
The Engineering function at HS2 comprises of teams of subject matter experts and project engineers who manage engineering across the HS2 programme.
The Engineering team are responsible for assuring that the construction contracts are themselves integrated and that they interface properly with the developing railway systems designs.
We carry out a range of risk based technical assurance activities within the Integrated Project Teams (IPTs), and specific Nominated Undertaker duties under the HS2 Act.
We provide support and advise the construction client teams on all technical matters and promote challenge, opportunities, and innovation where appropriate.
The engineering team forms part of the respective contract Integrated Project Teams where we work alongside project managers, commercial and project controls teams.
The subject matter experts within the engineering Chief Engineer's group are the engineering Technical Authorityresponsible for defining the Specifications, Standards and Requirements that together will deliver an end-state railway that meets the Sponsors & Stakeholders requirements.
We are responsible for managing the processes to enable HS2 to be 'Placed into Service', which involves demonstrating that the Infrastructure, Rolling Stock and Systems are compliant with the HS2 Act, legislation and requirements.
We are System Integratorfor the programme, working with suppliers, partners and stakeholders to create an end-state railway that is safe, operable and maintainable, ready for revenue service.
About You:
Skills:
Planning and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and deliver day to day tasks
Ability to coordinate and deliver multiple tasks and responsibilities in accordance with agreed deadlines
Communication skills and the ability to develop relationships with stakeholders
Ability to understand complex technical issues to carry out problem solving
Ability to work collaboratively across a multidisciplinary team and with stakeholders
Knowledge:
2:1 Bachelor's degree (or non-UK equivalent) Electrical / Electronic engineering degree accredited by the IET
IT knowledge including; Word, Excel, PowerPoint
Does HS2 offer sponsorship if I do not have the Right to Work in the UK?
To be eligible to apply to the HS2 Graduate scheme for our September 2024 in-take, any applicant will need to already have the on-going Right to Work in the UK, that is not time-bound in any way. Please note, unfortunately due to the 2 year time-bound restrictions of the Post Study/GraduateWork visa, we are unable to accept any applicants who have this visa as this is an ongoing permanent role that will carry on beyond the initial 2 year graduate programme.
Due to the nature of our organization, HS2 are not able to sponsor any applications as we do not hold the required sponsorship license from the UK Home Office and candidates are not allowed to sponsor themselves.

Our graduate programme salaries:
Salaries are currently pending pay review however please see below figures based on 2023.
London
London: Basic £25,050 + 15% Flexible allowance = £28,807
