Job Summary

Salary: £20,866.56 per annum

Hours: 40 hours a week, 40 weeks a year (term time plus 6 additional weeks)

Role:

We are recruiting for Graduate Sports Assistants, who will work alongside PE and other key school team staff across the Collegiate to teach/coach a number of sports and support students academically in small groups throughout their time at QE. Successful candidates will be passionate and motivated about the wider enrichment needs of students and have an ability and desire to build student engagement, enjoyment and outcomes generally, but especially we seek staff to support in the following areas:

  • Athletics
  • Cricket
  • Basketball
  • Football
  • Netball

We do offer a wide range of options including, swimming, rugby, fencing, table tennis and are always keen to further develop our sports provision.

This job description is written at a specific time and is subject to change as the demands of the Collegiate and the role develops, leading to potential teacher training opportunities and career development.

The role requires flexibility and adaptability and the employees of the Collegiate need to be aware that they may be asked to perform tasks and be given responsibilities not detailed in this job description.

We do offer teacher degree apprenticeship routes in the following areas after a successful 12 month period:

  • Primary (Aged 3-7)
  • Primary (Aged 5-11)
  • Primary SEND
  • Secondary; Mathematics, English, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, French Spanish, Geography, Computing

Duties and Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Plan, coach and assist with lessons throughout the year for students of all ages and abilities.
  • Deliver high quality sport practices before school, during lunchtimes, after school and on match days (midweek and weekends and in school holidays).
  • Select and accompany teams mid-week, weekends and in school holidays to fixtures, home and away.
  • Plan and notify students and parents about team selections for fixtures/events through Evolve.
  • Referee/umpire/officiate fixtures.
  • Support with the completion of all documentation related to fixtures and events.
  • Support with ensuring all visitors attending sports fixtures and events follow appropriate protocols.
  • Work with the catering department to ensure the provision of refreshments to visitors to campus.
  • Promote professional standards of punctuality, discipline and sportsmanship with all students in sport, academic studies and wider collegiate life, taking appropriate action where necessary.
  • Assist the Head of Department, Curriculum Leaders and Lead Coaches with administrative and other tasks as required.
  • Ensure care is taken with equipment and facilities and that areas are left tidy and in good condition.
  • Accompany various school trips and attend sporting events. These may take place outside term-time and at weekends.

Appointed Candidates will have:

  • Suitable degree qualification.
  • Coaching qualifications are an advantage.
  • Up to date specialist knowledge and experience of coaching at least one priority sports, with more than one being desirable.
  • Specialist knowledge and experience in strength and conditioning.
  • Experience of working with/teaching young people up to the age of 18.
  • Motivation to work with children of all ages and to develop a positive rapport.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, Outlook, Powerpoint and Excel.
  • Ability to communicate in a professional manner and effectively with other staff, students and all visitors.
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of, and commitment to, Child Protection and Safeguarding of children and young people.
  • Close attention to detail in all aspects of work.
  • Ability to work independently and also as part of a team.
  • A positive attitude towards professional development and their own learning.
  • Ability to be innovative, creative and work flexibly.
  • Ability to manage own time effectively.
