Job description

About Us:

Finding Your Feet is a unique charity supporting families affected by amputation or limb absence. Our ethos is firmly rooted in understanding, positivity, and community; and our approach spans from working directly with the NHS to looking after ‘the little things’ like a cup of tea and a chat.
Through emotional, physical and social well-being programmes; including online groups, catch-up calls, hospital visits, clubs, classes, counselling, personal advice and meet-ups; we aim to encourage Scotland’s amputees every step of the way on the road to living a full, healthy and confident life.
On top of this, building on the inspirational example of our Founder, quadruple amputee Dr Cor Hutton MBE, our ambition is to answer the questions others can’t; to fundamentally challenge stigma and raise awareness around limb difference; and to change the way both society at large perceives limb loss, and amputees see themselves.

About the Role:

As our Grants Officer you will be working with and trained by our Founder and Grants Consultant to become a proactive and pivotal participant at the heart of our income-generating strategy.
Fund-sourcing with Finding Your Feet is continually agile and evolving, particularly in the current economic climate, making this a varied and discerning post perfect for candidates who are ambitious, enthusiastic, intuitive and motivated by the prospect of facing new challenges.
The Grants Officer will identify, research, compose, submit, track and record a range of often coinciding grant applications (including high-value and multi-year awards), and thereafter ensure any progress reports and updates for ongoing funding requests are delivered on time and to a high standard.

Similarly, the position will entail the accurate, professional and engaging representation of the charity to both existing and potential donors, partners and funding bodies, in line with our ethos and principles. You should be comfortable initiating and maintaining positive, productive dialogue with a network of trusts and foundations, and acting as a spokesperson promoting Finding Your Feet’s interests. You may occasionally be required to attend meetings with funders out of typical working hours.

This is a diverse role that you can really make your own. You need to be a flexible thinker and be excited by new opportunities, developing creative ideas to secure funding. This role is essential to the growth of the charity and requires someone with drive and passion. You need to be excited by new opportunities and have a methodical approach to applications.

You will need you to have excellent communication skills and the ability to research and identify suitable grant opportunities. Enthusiasm is key, we are looking for a solution focused person who can work independently as well as part of a team.

About you:

In a successful candidate, we would like to see:

  • Proven experience of finding, tracking, writing and successfully achieving funding from a variety of grants and grant formats; this does not have to be self-managed, prior experience as part of a team of grant writers is also sufficient.

  • A sales-minded orientation; ideally positioned to locate and take advantage of new opportunities, innovate, and promote us as a charity.

  • Skills in presentation.

  • Keen attention to detail, particularly with respect to online record keeping and learning new system protocols.

  • Current and reasonable knowledge of the field of funding providers and donors, along with any legal factors associated with application procedures and protocols.

  • Excellent organisational skills.

  • Collaborative and team-working ability.

  • Good time-keeping, work-load management and adherence to tight deadlines.

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills, plus the ability to organically correspond with and grow a network of trusts, foundations and grant bodies.

  • Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, and the ability to adapt to working with new and/or unfamiliar software programmes where necessary, once trained in their use.

Desired Further Qualities:

  • Enthusiasm, positivity and passion for our mission as a charity changing the landscape for the limb difference community.

  • Some familiarity with the broad physical and emotional sensitivities of limb loss.

What You Can Expect:

At Finding Your Feet, we make an extra effort to foster a comfortable, friendly and open work environment with an ethos of care. We aim to support our staff as a team to the best of our ability, regardless of their needs, so we always try to stay adaptable to flexibility in working hours, holiday entitlements and leave.
For a full time position our staff receive 28 days annual leave, inclusive of public holidays.  You will be working alongside a group of passionate, dedicated and hardworking individuals who take pride in the work that they do.
The role is inclusive of a medical cashback scheme, and will offer specific training and skill-levelling, with the potential for it to develop into a higher-bracket and increased-salary position, as their experience increases.
Though we are currently offering slightly higher than the National Living Wage for our successful Grants Officer, we are happy to discuss an increase on this to reflect experience and expertise.
