Hours per week: 35-37 Monday – Friday, shift rota to be advised
This opening assignment is for 5-6 months
City: KILLINGWORTH, Newcastle upon Tyne
A Green Warden is required to undertake all aspects of grounds maintenance and litter management across the Waggonways throughout North Tyneside, promoting community safety with other organisations, and contributing to the effective management of North Tyneside’s wider Public Rights of Way network.
Key responsibilities:
Be a uniformed presence acting as a deterrent to vandalism, graffiti, and anti-social behaviour.
Monitor and enforce appropriate bylaws (dog fouling, littering, fly tipping).
Act as a point of contact between residents and the Local Authority, paying particular attention to anti-social behaviour and environmental issues and referring them to the appropriate agency.
Act as an ambassador for the Authority, giving advice and information to residents regarding crime prevention, housing matters, and environmental issues, whilst promoting the image of the council.
Respond to all members of the public in a sympathetic and polite manner at all times.
Liaise with schools and colleges to promote community safety and environmental education. Attend community meetings where appropriate.
Deal with all enquiries and feed back in an appropriate manner. Maintain confidentiality all times.
Maintain a constant awareness of potential problems, reporting incidents to Team Leader/other agencies where appropriate.
Liaise with Team Leader, ensuring that any exchange of information is accurately recorded and reported to the appropriate agency. Liaise with colleagues in Security, Cleansing, Grounds Maintenance, and others to ensure a safe and clean environment.
Produce and maintain action plans and operational manuals for daily activities. Plan general maintenance schedules.
Carry out gardening and cleansing activities, including litter and graffiti removal.

Qualifications:
Full UK clean driving licence.
Qualifications in basic horticulture desirable.
Undertake training as required to undertake the role of Green Warden.
Experience:
Community or similar work background desirable.
Experience of chainsaw units including aerial rescue desirable.
Able to tow a trailer desirable.
Previous experience of community or customer service desirable.
Minimum of 12 months recent experience in a similar role or context and ideally within a public sector organisation.
Knowledge:
A basic knowledge of countryside management skills.
Ability to use horticultural equipment.
Understanding of Community Safety issues desirable.
Skills & Abilities:
Able to work outdoors in all weathers.
A logical approach to problem solving.
Good observational skills.
Ability to work to deadlines.
Flexible attitude.
Good organisational skills.
Must be able work as part of a team.
Ability to handle conflict with tact and diplomacy.
Able to plan and prioritise own workload.
