The difference our new Ground Station Infrastructure Engineering Lead will make
Babcock have been awarded the contract to run and modernised the UK MoD satellite network, Skynet. As part of this programme, we are looking for an experienced Infrastructure Engineering Lead with current expertise in the specification and management of construction projects within defence infrastructure sites. Experience in the design and security aspect of Military communication networks would also be valuable. This role will be responsible for:
  • Delivery of projects to modernise the built environment such as antenna installations, campus electrical infrastructure upgrades, security infrastructure enhancements and supporting civil works.
  • Provide guidance during the design phase of construction projects to ensure that proposed works can be undertaken in a safe and legislation compliant manner
  • Ensure construction works on site are being undertaken safely and UK legislative requirements are being followed at all times (including CDM 2015, Planning Conditions, BS5975)
  • Oversee specialist sub-contractor works ensuring that projects are completed to design and inspected by relevant SMEs prior to handover
  • Prepare project reporting artefacts such as site logs, inspection reports, progress reports and EVM approvals
  • Act as Clerk of Works, providing liaison between project managers, the landlord, construction contractors, SMEs, facilities management and user groups

The role holder shall be considered the 'Authorising Engineer' for all of the programmes CDM notifiable projects, ensuring that duty holders are appropriately allocated and that projects are registered with the Health and Safety Executive where required.
What do I need to do this role?

Experience
  • Experience as a Clerk of Works, Site inspector or Site Manager on the defence estate
  • Experience of common UK construction contract types (NEC, JCT)
  • Knowledge of RIBA project cycles
  • Knowledge of UK construction health and safety legislation including CDM duty holder responsibilities
  • Have previous experience working on telecoms, satellite or command and control facility projects in the built environment
  • Registered with an appropriate professional body (CIBSE, ICWCI, CIOB, ICE) - Desirable.
  • Experience of projects in nuclear hardened facilities - Desirable.
  • Experience of undertaking works to NPSA (formerly CPNI) standards - Desirable.
  • Able to create design documents in AutoCAD, Sketchup and Visio - Desirable.

Qualifications
Formal qualifications to a minimum of level 4 in an associated subject (construction, structural, electrical, mechanical)
