Job description

Groundwater Specialist
Birmingham
£36,000 - £45,350 

We are currently dealing with a Client Organization who are looking to recruit a Groundwater Specialist to work on the new High Speed Rail project, with the role being based in Birmingham. As the Groundwater Specialist, you will be responsible for developing the technical quality, specifications, standards, and assurance of groundwater issues (and related subjects) associated with the HS2 programme. You will be responsible for dealing with the relevant statutory agencies on technical issues that may have legislative consequences.

Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

- Provide technical leadership on hydrogeological matters and specialist advice to contractors and the wider team.
- Design and deliver specific workstreams relating to the groundwater aspects of railway projects to ensure statutory and other requirements are met fully and within agreed timeframes.
- Provide technical management and review to assure that deliverables meet the project’s legislative and groundwater requirements.
- Develop good relationships with stakeholders and statutory bodies, particularly the Environment Agency, to help deliver appropriate mitigation measures for the impact of railway projects.
- Liaise closely with other disciplines, such as drainage, ecology, contaminated land, and geotechnics.
- Represent the company at technical meetings as required.
- Actively promote and embed Equality Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in all your work, and support and comply with all organisational initiatives, policies, and procedures on EDI.

Required Criteria

- BSc in geology or other relevant subject (e.g. earth science or other science discipline).
- MSc in hydrogeology/related subject or equivalent experience
- Chartered Membership of a relevant professional body (if not Chartered we would expect the candidate, with our support, to pursue Chartership).
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, such as the Water Framework Directive, technical guidance, industry standards and best practice.
- Knowledge of surrounding and interacting disciplines such as surface water/ flood risk, drainage, contaminated land, and ecology.
- Experience of a variety of hydrogeological projects and particularly large-scale construction projects at design and construction stages.
- Project management and budget experience.

You will join a well-established team, that sits within the Environment Department, located in Birmingham.
