Job Title:  Group Employment Lawyer

Contract Type:  Permanent

Location:  Edinburgh, Alderley Edge, or London  

Working style: Hybrid 50% home/office based

Closing date: 23rd January 2024

 

We are currently looking for a Group Employment Lawyer, to join our highly regarded Legal Team. This role will complement a team of in-house lawyers who provide strategic legal advice, guidance, and support across the Royal London Group.

 

This newly created position offers a fantastic opportunity to shape the provision of employment legal advice to the Royal London Group, join a high performing team and take on an exciting challenge. This position can be based in our Edinburgh, Alderley Edge, or London offices.

 

In this role you will use your skills and knowledge to undertake a range of employment law activities; being the principal business partner to the Group People Function and providing employment advice to corporate and commercial transactions.  

 

The role will focus on providing employment law advice and general legal support to the People team and broader Royal London Group.

 

About the role

 

  • Sole employment law counsel for Royal London Group.  Reports to Deputy General Counsel, with a dotted line to General Counsel.
  • Act as business partner to, and lead the Group Legal Team’s relationship with, the People team.
  • Newly created role allows you to shape the way in which employment law advice and support is provided.
  • Provide specialist employment law advice and assistance on various matters including contractual matters, TUPE, employment/people related aspects of the financial services regulatory framework, disciplinary and grievance, contentious matters, discrimination, and equal opportunities.
  • Work directly with business stakeholders, providing advice and guidance to support the People team’s business as usual priorities.
  • Provide employment law-related support to key strategic projects (such as M&A) and material commercial contracts.
  • Deliver activities in-line with the strategy and operating model for the Group Legal function.
  • Takes initiative to develop radar activity and enhance precedents, processes, guidance notes and other know-how for the benefit of the team and wider business.

 

About you

 

  • Qualified Solicitor from a Common Law jurisdiction.
  • Candidates must have strong and recent experience within employment law.
  • Ability to collaborate with stakeholders and a proven track record working in a fast-moving environment. 
  • Experience working in the Financial Services sector would be preferred.
