Guildhall School of Music & Drama Research Residencies

Following its strong performance in the 2021 national Research Excellence Framework and the publication of a new Research Strategy 2022–27, the School invites applications from artists, scholars and researcher-practitioners to base themselves at Guildhall for a period with the purpose of carrying out a range of activities for the benefit and enrichment of the institutional research culture. These activities should be established, at least in outline, through preliminary conversations with relevant members of School staff prior to application (please see list of contacts below). The School’s research leadership has no preconceived notion of what they might include, save that they should facilitate the exchange of ideas related to research and research-led teaching; support interaction of School researchers with other researchers, scholars, academics, and practitioners internally and externally; and generally develop or catalyse activity within the School’s research community. Precedence may be given to priority or not-traditionally-research-active areas of its work, which at the moment include Theatre, Digital Performance, and Music Therapy. Remuneration If the applicant is a permanent or ongoing employee at the time of the residency (e.g. is on a paid sabbatical from another institution), then no remuneration will be offered. If, however, the applicant is part-time, a freelancer, or works on a project basis (perhaps as a consultant), then remuneration will be negotiated on the basis of seniority/rank/experience, market norms, and so on.
