The Category Specialist role provides procurement advice for the category/subcategories drawing on your accredited professional knowledge and skills (CIPS qualified)
* Member decisions on procurement strategies and contract awards allocated to the officer are made following advice and assurance by the procurement specialist
* This role manages the delivery of end-to-end procurement activity allocated within the category working with the a range of senior officers across the council
* It provides strong leadership and effective management of contract and supplier management to maximize value for money
* The role leads and delivers all small and medium size procurement projects within the category plan, ensuring the council is compliant with the national regulations and continually enhances its local regulations
* The role analyses and provides solutions for complex technical challenges when procuring and supports the category manager with large procurement projects.
* The role delivers solutions that support the development and continuous improvement of the category plan and wider council procurement strategy
* The role feeds into the delivery of wider policy priorities across the assigned categories/ subcategories e.g. operational processes to enable ethical, sustainable and economic procurement
* The role embeds strong compliant procurement policies, procedures and culture through joint work with colleagues across the council to ensure the council adhere to the constitution and contract regulations
