We have a fabulous job opportunity for a Handy Person to join our awesome Southampton Housing Management Team. We are the multi skilled hands-on practical support that helps our colleagues deliver services to our customers. As a business we support customers with mental health, learning disabilities, ex-offenders and substance misuse in a wide range of properties and grounds. As our Handy Person you’ll spend much of your time working across the Southampton patch in all of our twenty properties.
Typical day as a Handy Person
- Doing minor or emergency repairs, re-decoration or even cleaning in our properties or communal areas
- Doing things like hanging curtain poles, moving furniture, decorating flats/rooms, changing tap washers, unblocking sinks, lock changes, supporting Housing Management Coordinators with void cleans/works/re-stock and clearing grounds or properties.
- Supporting Housing Management Coordinators with Fire Safety and Health and Safety checks
- Working with colleagues, commercial partners and customers throughout your day.
- Liaising with the Housing Management Coordinators on repairs that are not within your remit that need to be called through to our Customer Service Centre

About You
- A team player with a can-do attitude and enthusiasm.
- You’re multi skilled with general maintenance skills, know a bit about general repairs, carpentry, basic plumbing and can wield a broom or paint brush!
- Comfortable working and communicating with people from all walks of life.
- It would be amazing if you have been a Handy Person in a previous job, but it’s not a deal breaker.
- Able to use technology for completing all expense returns.
- You will need a full, clean, UK driver’s license as a small works van will be provided.
- Show initiative and be solution focused.
Our team
You’ll join Jo and our Southampton Housing Management team, we’re super passionate about what we do! We’re really proud of our ability to create decent homes for our customers that are fit for purpose. We are reactive to all their housing needs, no matter how big or small. This could range from dealing with a dripping tap, or re-hanging doors to moving furniture and building stud walls.
We’re a supportive bunch and like to meet up for breakfast/lunch regularly. We all work from a satellite office close to the town centre, so we are always around to offer support and share experiences.
Job details
- We work Monday to Friday, 9 am – 5 pm, but we’re flexible and as long as we can meet our customers need, we can flex your work patterns to suit you.
- Based at our service in Southampton you’ll spend your time travelling around the properties in our patch, predominantly in Southampton and Sarisbury Green
- Occasionally travel outside of our patch / service to work on a property that you may not have worked on before, or when we have an all-hands on deck situation.
- You’ll need an Enhanced DBS check done and we pay for that.
