The Opportunity...

At Hinkley Point C (HPC) we are building two new nuclear reactors, the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK providing low carbon electricity for around six million homes.

As a Harbour Master, you’ll be ensuring safe navigation and compliance with the Port Marine Safety Code, leading a dynamic team of experts in steering the course of EDF's marine activities related to the construction of Hinkley Point C.

What you’ll be doing…

• Managing all aspects of navigational safety, security (both land-based and marine), and environmental protection.
• Exercising statutory and delegated powers as the decision-maker for short-term operational issues on behalf of the HPC Harbour Authority (HPCHA).
• Providing support and guidance to the Duty Holder to ensure compliance with the Port Marine Safety Code (PMSC).
• Coordinating Jetty activities with HPC Emergency Arrangements and Security Procedures.
• Fostering effective communication and collaboration with adjacent harbours and navigational stakeholders such as the Maritime & Coastguard Agency, Trinity House, Royal Yachting Association, Hydrographic Office, and Ministry of Defence at the Lilstock Firing Range.
• Representing HPCHA at industry forums, leading or supporting HPC responses on media, community relations, and communications regarding marine matters.

Who you are…

Your background may include some of the following:

• Possess Harbour master’s Certificate/Diploma, OOW Unlimited II/1, or equivalent qualification.
• Demonstrable experience in harbour management at DHM level or higher.
• Hold MCA Level 4/5P Oil Spill Commander training and Port Facility Security Officer certificate, or willingness to obtain post-appointment.
• Proven track record of ensuring compliance with the Port Marine Safety Code (PMSC).
• Extensive experience in stakeholder engagement, particularly within the leisure sector.
• Hold RYA VHF Short-range certificate or its equivalent.
