Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service (DFRS) provides a wide range of services to the people who live, work and visit our county.  Covering over 1,000 square miles, including both urban and rural communities with a population of approximately 1,060,000, including parts of the National Forest and the Peak District National Park. We employ over 900 people and with 31 strategically placed fire stations located across the county, we're always ready to respond, protect, and educate.

 The Head of Assetsand Sustainabilityis a newly created role within DFRS and presents an exciting opportunity to work directly to the Area Manager Service Delivery Support and the Services Strategic Leadership Team.  The postholder will lead the Services approach to asset management and Sustainability, including the design and delivery of strategies and improvement programmes. Ensuring the Service maintains compliance against legislation will also be a priority for the postholder.  

Key Responsibilities: 

  • To show a commitment to sustainability and responsible asset management. Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service are dedicated to making a positive impact on the environment while delivering exceptional value for money.
  • To lead on the design and delivery of the Service’s Asset Management and Environmental Strategies.
  • Lead and plan the delivery of the Services major improvements programme including oversight of project budgets and the specification, design, tendering and negotiation of a wide range of contracts and managing the maintenance and improvement of the Service’s assets.
  • Take a lead role in ensuring contractual scrutiny and by acting as the duty holder to ensure compliance against legislation whilst supporting the delivery of ongoing health and safety related compliance.
  • To support the development of and champion the Service’s Environmental Strategy and help identify and secure external funding opportunities.
  • Qualifications
  • Appropriate professional qualification (at fully qualified level) in property management, e.g. Degree and membership of professional body, i.e. Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, Chartered Institute of Building, Royal Institute of British Architects or equivalent.
  • Evidence of continuing management and personal development.

There will be a requirement for some travel for which a pool car will be provided. 

The normal working week is 37 hours however you may occasionally need to work beyond normal office hours.
