BDUK is a subsidiary of the Boeing Company and currently employs over 1,800 people in the UK. BDUK is responsible for delivering several exciting contracts to our UK Defence customers including E-7 AEW&C, P-8A Maritime Patrol Aircraft, C4ISTAR Services, Through Life Support for the Chinook and Apache Fleets, Logistic Information Services and Training Services.

We have an exciting opportunity for a senior manager to join the Digital and Future Programmes Leadership team to lead the Capture function. You will develop the team and successfully bid on large scale, complex Public Sector competitive campaigns to continue growing the Boeing Defence UK business. This is a full-time role based at Bristol typically with 3 or 4 days on site with some hybrid working options.
The role
This senior management role will report into the Digital and Future Programmes Director. As the Head of Capture & Campaigns, you will coordinate and manage all bid and proposal activity driven by the long-range business plan, and opportunities qualified by the sales/business development team. Activity will include, but not limited to, providing resource to support sales team responses to expressions of interest, through to campaign teams responding to pre-qualifying questionnaires, ITT or ITN bid submissions and negotiations aHead of handover to programme delivery for mobilisation.
The role demands a high calibre individual to lead capture best practice and creating business-wide enthusiasm to ensure a ‘One Boeing’ approach to activity and ensure appropriate investment to win and grow the business.
You will provide the day to day functional management and leadership of the capture team, mentoring and developing individuals, building the necessary high performing team with relevant experience and capacity.
You will be the ‘go to’ subject matter expert on bidding, overseeing the development of win strategies, position & price to win, value propositions, solution development, commercial strategies and risk management. You will also be responsible for implementing all necessary bid procedures, governance and processes to deliver winning proposals, primarily focused on competitive bids but also supporting programme delivery of single or sole source, non-competitive bids.
You will be responsible for the delivery of bid training based on Boeing capture best practice (Integrated Business Acquisition Process, similar to Shipley). You will localise Enterprise processes to make them fit for purpose in the UK, and continue to develop suitable metrics to track and improve bidding success across frameworks to large scale, complex bids. You will also be responsible for maintaining the necessary reporting data to feed into business performance reviews.
This critical role will underpin future growth of BDUK and presents the scope for considerable development and growth of the capture capability.

You will also be an active member of the Digital and Future Programmes Leadership Team, accountable for driving forward the Business Units priorities and strategy.
Key tasks

  • Lead the Capture Team, provide mentoring & development of bid team resources
  • Provide governance & scrutiny oversight of all current campaigns
  • Continuously develop and improve the bid & capture capability and seek creative, innovative approaches to deliver a high performing function
  • Forecast & manage all bid resources (people & funding)
  • Lead rigorous review, management and implementation of lessons learned
  • Lead on the development of campaign metrics and deliver monthly updates at executive campaign reviews
  • Tailor and adapt processes as required (localize IBAP)
  • Support the iterative development of the strategy
  • Help identify and mitigate campaign risks and issues
  • Provide non-advocate reviews
  • Update/review Responsibility Accountability and Authority matrices, Terms of Reference & Operational/Service Level Agreements all elements of GS&M bid activity into the sales team and wider business

The person
The successful candidate will have extensive experience of managing and delivering multiple, large scale, complex bids, ideally with a successful track record of winning Public Sector contracts and developing teams. You will need to be highly competitive and passionate about winning bids and lead from the front from campaign initiation to contract award.
You must have demonstrable experience of managing multiple bids that consistently produce high quality written tenders, as well as being comfortable in managing internal stakeholders to gain buy-in and approval throughout the governance process – creating the necessary excitement and belief to ensure investment in campaigns.
You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated ability and experience in working with managers from a variety of business cultures and disciplines in order to ensure the achievement of common goals
You will need to deal with a matrix organisation and manage multiple resources to deliver a strong, winning bid to the customer (across the Public Sector).
Preferred Skills and experience:

  • Experience of winning business in Defence or other Public Sector procurement
  • Experience of leading and managing a team in a bidding role

Work Authorisation: This requisition is for a locally hired position in the UK. Candidates must have current legal authorisation to work immediately in the United Kingdom. Boeing will not attempt to obtain Immigration and labour sponsorship for any applicants. Benefits and pay are determined at the local level and are not part of Boeing U.S. based payroll.

Security Clearance: This position requires the ability to obtain a UK security clearance requiring 5 years continuous residency in the UK

Relocation: This position does not offer relocation. Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.
