The Directorate of Access, Skills & Apprenticeships (DASA) places the student lifecycle at the heart of its strategy, spanning from access into higher education to progression into employment or further study after university. The new and versatile role of Head of Careers; Deputy Director of DASA, has been created to enhance the directorate’s ability to fulfil strategic objectives. Reporting to the Director of DASA, the postholder will assume both operational management of the Careers & Employability Service, along with strategic oversight of the Access & Participation Team. The role involves leading strategic interactions with academic departments to ensure the embedding and delivery of career management skills programmes to students. The postholder will also oversee the Access & Participation Managers’ work in co-designing and progressing projects/developments with faculties and professional services, aligning with the Access & Participation Plan. Deputising for the Director of DASA, the successful candidate will sit on various committees including the Student Success Sub-Committee, the Student Voice & Experience Committee, and lead on the Directorate’s Business Continuity Plan. Collaboration with internal and external stakeholders is a key aspect of the role, involving employers, faculties, Chester Students’ Union, and professional services such as Human Resources, Finance, Marketing, Recruitment & Admissions. With significant experience of either delivering careers guidance and employability provision or experience in recruitment consultancy/graduate recruitment, the successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, problem-solving skills, resilience, and a commitment to student access or/& inclusion. Additionally, the ability to use these skills to pro-actively innovate and augment service delivery and Graduate Outcomes survey (GOS) performance is a must.
