Job description

Head of Children, Young People and Families

Salary: £40,000 - £50,500

Hours: Full time - 35 hours per week

Location:Tulse Hill Adventure Playground, Greenleaf Close, SW2 2EY, London (office-based role)

The Head of Children, Young People & Families sits within the senior management team of High Trees. This leadership role ensures the strategic ambitions of our work for Children, Young People & Families (CYPF), capacity building and peer research are realised.

The role manages our Children, Young People & Families Service and Building Young Brixton (BYB) teams, who deliver on a range of services and projects to support Lambeth's Young People. Our CYPF service and team are based at Tulse Hill Adventure Playground, where the majority of our services are run. You will have overall responsibility for leading a team delivering a diverse range of activities including after-school, weekend and holiday play provision, early years stay-and-play, youth leadership programmes, in-school coaching programmes, and oversight of the Building Young Brixton Partnership, which includes training and reflection services for youth workers across the partnership. You will have demonstrable experience of running a multifaceted service - delivering several projects simultaneously and managing a team of staff - with the exceptionally strong organisational skills that this requires.

You will lead the design, development, delivery, management, and ongoing evaluation of our services. You will have an excellent understanding of the landscape in which charities deliver their services and the statutory and funding frameworks within which we operate.

Some projects will involve working with other teams to serve the needs of the Young People we work with, this could be employment support delivered with our Employment and Careers Team or peer research projects delivered with our Community Action Team.

A key aspect of the role is contract monitoring and ideally, you'll have experience of reporting back on performance and finance directly to funders, contract managers or partners. More important are the underlying skills of attention to detail, ease of working to clearly set targets and the ability to project manage several programmes at once. You will seek continual improvements for our services, focused on high quality provision while prioritising impact measurement.

Our local community is at the centre of everything we do, and you will have solid professional experience within a community setting that demonstrates your ability to be responsive to community need and build meaningful partnerships with community groups, charity partners and other local organisations. You will hold responsibility for developing the charity's strategic vision for growth and development in this area and look for ways the charity can expand its reach and impact within the local community.

Benefits of working at High Trees:

-35 days annual leave (inclusive of bank holidays and 3 Christmas days) rising by 1 day each year after 2 years of service (capped at an additional 8 days)
-Enhanced maternity/paternity/adoption leave after 2 years' service
-Save money off a new bike with the Cycle to Work scheme
-Up to 7% contribution to the staff pension scheme
-24/7 Employee Support Line
-Clear pay structure with yearly increments (based on performance)
-Annual Staff away day
-Premium eye-care vouchers through Specsavers and season ticket loans
