Job description

4c Executive has partnered up with Translink, Northern Ireland’s main public transport provider, as they seek to appoint a Head of Continuous Improvement. The company provides award winning coach and rail services 364 days per year, under a number of brands including NI Railways, Enterprise, Ulsterbus, Goldliner, Metro and Glider. In 2019/20, Translink services carried 84.5 million passengers, the highest for over 20 years.

Translink has a vision to make public transport everyone’s first choice for travel and to achieve this the company has an ambitious "Better. Connected" strategy in place which sets out the steps they are taking to lead the transformation of transport in Northern Ireland. In addition to exciting development projects such as Belfast Grand Central station, the company has an extensive transformation agenda with a strong focus on delivering high quality, customer focused services.

Reporting to the Director of Service Operations, the Head of Continuous Improvement will be a key player on the delivery of the "Better. Connected" strategy. The successful individual will lead a team of Continuous Improvement professionals across bus, rail, and engineering, with direct responsibility for the risk assurance function as well. The role holder will coordinate, develop, and deliver customer-centric business transformation programmes, change activities and Continuous Improvement plans across the Translink Group and the associated large capital projects/programmes, all aimed at delivering "better basics".

This role is suitable for an ambitious and credible senior leader. Someone who thrives delivering large scale organisational transformation, with strong influencing skills, able to build robust, professional relationships with stakeholders from diverse backgrounds. The role holder will have an innate Continuous Improvement mindset, coupled with excellent planning and organising skills.

The successful individual will also possess:

  • Significant experience working at a senior management level within large complex organisations, with a proven track record of delivering positive business results coupled with experience and proven record of leading and directing large scale transformational changes.
  • Experience of leading a team to deliver business priorities through effective staff engagement.
  • A proven track record of leading and delivering effective Continuous Improvement and change management programmes over multiple sites across a wide geographical area.
  • Third level education with a degree in Engineering, Transport, Business, or other related discipline.
