About us
Government Internal Audit Agency (GIAA) has the ambition to be a leader in the use of Data Analytics in internal audit and counter fraud and investigation. We were established in 2015 as an executive agency of His Majesty’s Treasury (HM Treasury) to improve the quality of internal audit for central government. We lead the government internal audit profession and function.
We are looking for a Head of Data Analytics to lead a team of six Data Analytics specialists. You will build the team to use software tools such as IDEA, Excel and Power BI to prepare data, run advanced analysis and report this to internal audit colleagues and customers. In addition, you will build positive relationships with both colleagues in customer facing teams, and data specialists across government and in the private sector to understand and develop services to meet their needs, as well as collaborating to ensure all benefit from the latest thinking and development in Data Analytics.

Key accountabilities
• Lead the GIAA Data Analytics specialist team
• Identify and develop with the team new Data Analytics services to support GIAA activities
• Carry out Data Analytics using R or Python and develop dashboards to report to customers
• Manage resources to deliver to GIAA quality standards and meet agreed timescales for delivery
• Develop relationships with strategic delivery partners to deploy additional resources when demand exceeds availability of GIAA internal resources
• Collaborate with other Data Analytics specialists across government and the private sector in researching and developing innovative approaches to Data Analytics suitable for internal audit and counter fraud and investigation activities
About you
Required qualifications
A degree or equivalent experience in a field such as engineering, mathematics, physics or computer science with proven experience in the use of Data Analytics. Alternatively, a professional qualification to chartered or equivalent in internal audit or accountancy (IIA/CCAB or equivalent) with proven experience in the use of Data Analytics.
Our ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in conducting Data Analytics using R or Python with appreciation of how this may be applied to internal audit and counter fraud and investigation activities. You will have strong leadership skills, with the ability to communicate the results of complex analysis in a clear and concise manner, considering non-expert customers. A good knowledge of the latest Data Analytics approaches and a track record of applying these to deliver benefits for an organisation is a must!
