Head of Defence Commercial

The Role
This role interfaces with member companies and the Ministry of Defence (and other Government departments as/when required) on a wide array of commercial and contractual issues including (amongst others): contract terms, single source contract processes, intellectual property rights, liabilities arising from contracts, and general procurement matters. Essentially, the role facilitates the routes to the Defence market for our members, be it directly or via the contractor community.
The Head of Defence Commercial has a key role in assisting members with commercial queries, or directing them to various contacts, resources, or sources of information. The role, working with colleagues across ADS, seeks to influence MOD/HMG processes and practices in defence contracting and commercial matters and supports ADS members in understanding and meeting commercial requirements.
The role is core to the ADS defence programme, managing complex issues requiring an ability to communicate clearly and concisely to non-specialists as it needs to represent a wide range of detailed industry views on challenging topics.
The role reports directly to the Director of Defence and requires budgetary approvals through the Director. The role also works with ADS Events Team to establish and deliver plans for any paid for commercial events that are agreed by the Director Defence, including Commercial Training Workshops.
The Candidate
Demonstrate in-depth, practical knowledge and experience on a very wide range of commercial matters, including (amongst others): commercial contracting Intellectual Property, pricing, procurement matters and Single Source Regulatory Office matters Comprehensive experience in managing complex procurement negotiations Background in the private sector (ideally defence) Ideally: existing network and understanding of the MOD or at minimum a demonstrable interest in developing detailed understanding within the MOD community relevant to this role Collaborative approach with the ability to stand firm as/when required Be someone with a keen interest for detail and an excellent communicator (written and spoken) Demonstrate a willingness to learn new skills in areas related to commercial activities The ability to produce and deliver presentations to a high standard. Contract; Permanent, fulltime role, Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week
Location; Hybrid role working from the office in either London (Head Office) or Farnborough and home
Compensation: GBP70-GBP80k, depending on experience
