NTU’s strategy – University, reimagined – demonstrates our commitment to doing the right thing for our people, our communities, and our environment. The School of Science and Technology is home to over 7000 students including more than 1500 postgraduate students. We're seeking to recruit a creative and ambitious academic leader as Head of Department of Engineering to succeed the founding Head of Department, Prof Neil Mansfield, who moves to a new role at NTU. Your mission is to develop and grow the department to enable our graduates, research, and knowledge exchange to provide the best engineering solutions to the challenges of a changing world. You have a well-developed understanding of the UK Higher Education and Engineering sectors and a proven track record of delivery to ensure our future success. You also have a passion to support the inclusive culture and the career development of the team, a commitment to innovative delivery of Engineering courses and a track record of income generation. Your personal research, knowledge exchange or scholarship is in a relevant area of Engineering and may be at a professorial level. You will also contribute to the leadership of the overall School as a member of the School Executive Team. About Us Our six departments span engineering and computer science as well as the biological, mathematical, physical and sport sciences. We have a highly interdisciplinary culture and foster an inclusive, diverse, and collaborative working environment, so that staff and students from all backgrounds are enabled to succeed. Investment in people and facilities is a cornerstone to our success, including over £65 million of capital for research and teaching in recent years. The Department is mostly based on the Clifton campus with some provision at the University Centre, Mansfield. The Department of Engineering was established in 2017 with a vision to develop creative engineers who will shape the future. Following investment in a new Engineering building and an excellent academic and technical team, the department is now home to about 1000 students studying mechanical, electrical and electronic, aerospace, biomedical and sport engineering courses. Engineering research at NTU was ranked as 14th in the UK with respect to Grade Point Average in the 2021 Research Excellence Framework, according to The Times Higher Education.
