Job description

The University of Derby is seeking to appoint a new Head of Development who will deliver an ambitious fundraising strategy to meet institutional targets and support a range of activities across the institution. About the role As the most senior development professional at the University of Derby, the Head of Development is a member of the senior management team within the Stakeholder Relationships Department and will lead the development, implementation and delivery of the University’s Development and Fundraising strategies. The postholder will grow a comprehensive fundraising and stewardship programme that will meet ambitious institutional targets and support a range of activities across the institution. The Head of Development will coordinate all aspects of fundraising activity, ensuring the development of a range of innovative income-generating activities in collaboration with colleagues and key external stakeholders. Working closely with the wider External Relations team and the University’s Executive members, the Head of Development will lead the review and cultivation of a range of individual, corporate and trust prospects to solicit major gifts. This will include targeted gift-giving campaigns, hosting high-profile events alongside executive members, and developing a network of contacts and partners to ensure the University of Derby is well-positioned to respond to opportunities to meet ambitious income generation targets. Who we are looking for We are seeking a Head of Development with excellent knowledge of fundraising, strong relationship management and engagement skills, and a proven track record of delivering to philanthropic income targets. Ideally, the post holder will have experience managing or being an integral part of a successful development function within a UK higher education setting. Candidates must demonstrate their experience in the stewardship of high-profile donors and their ability to manage a pipeline of potential donors. Candidates will be required to demonstrate their experience in aligning the delivery of fundraising activities to support the achievement of wider institutional strategies.
