Job description

Head of eCommerce

Full-time, permanent, hybrid-working opportunity (min 2 days a week at our office in Wallington, Surrey)

About us

An award-winning, well-established (we’ve just celebrated our 40th anniversary), successful tour operator. Here at Newmarket Holidays, we are here to enrich lives and well-being through travel. To bring that to life, we know our success is driven by our exceptional people. We create wish-list holidays. The type of holidays that people have always dreamt of doing. We bring those dreams to life and are the trusted friends of our loyal customers.

The Opportunity

The Head of eCommerce is an important pillar in the future growth of Newmarket Holidays. This role requires an acute understanding of and ability to execute business strategy, digital marketing, website conversion optimisation, data analysis and team leadership to effectively drive sales, enhance customer experience and online presence of Newmarket Holidays.

You’ll be responsible for driving business performance by developing and implementing a strong eCommerce strategy, optimising the customer experience, staying up to date with the latest technologies and trends, measuring and analysing performance, building a strong team, and managing relationships across the organisation and with external partners. We have a great and growing eCommerce team that you will lead, manage, develop, and mentor, happy to be hands-on in delivering strategic leadership - from developing class-leading user experiences to white-labelling, social media to SEO, analytics to affiliates. With responsibility for Newmarket Holidays websites and their ability to acquire customers through B2C, B2B and reservation platforms, you’ll need to demonstrate agility as these sites have different business requirements and rules, different customers, and differing behaviours and user journeys. Travel is a people business where relationships are key at every level: understanding customers, building and being part of effective, cross-functional teams and project groups, initiating and fostering long-term, successful third-party partnerships, so you’ll thrive on and be skilled at bringing people together to achieve results.

This is certainly a role offering variety, challenge, and opportunity, working in one of the best possible industry sectors - travel. Who doesn’t love holidays?!

About you

We’re looking for someone who’s had experience in a similar level role. If that’s been in travel or related business sector, then that’s a definite advantage.

Our people are at the heart of our success. You’ll have a proven track record of building and leading high performing eCommerce teams, including hiring the right people, providing ongoing training and development, and creating a culture of collaboration and innovation. And you’ll thrive in working in a cross functional structure, exuding and instilling confidence through your natural gravitas, positivity, energy, and expertise.

Technically you will be an expert in digital marketing channels (SEO, SEM, PPC, affiliate marketing, display advertising, content marketing and social media marketing and so on). You’ll also demonstrate extensive knowledge and experience in web technologies, XML APIs and web services. You’ll be data focused with an ability to demonstrate a high skill level in this area to support trend analysis and decision making from the myriad of data points, in particular GA4 (day to day usage, implementation, customisation) and Power BI.

The eCommerce team works hand-in-glove with our PMO team of developers, so experience of working within SDLCs and exposure of working within project management environments is important too (e.g. PRINCE2, AGILE or SCRUM).

Our success over our forty years is in part due to our agility and desire to both deliver and evolve. Adopting a 'challenge the norm’ mantra, innovation and entrepreneurial spirit is vital to continue that success and future growth. With digital being crucial to growth, you can expect to lead and be part of fascinating, challenging new and developmental projects, so project management experience with relevant reporting and analysis thereof is expected.

What We Can Offer You

This is an exciting opportunity to become part of our changing, multi-cultural, team-spirited environment with opportunities to learn from new experiences and challenges. You’ll work with leaders who are interested in your development and committed to helping you to be the best version of yourself. And we’re a responsible organisation that cares about its people, the environment, and the communities we visit. We’ll encourage you to take initiative and try something new and different. Our teams operate with a flexible and hybrid working arrangement. There’s an exciting set of benefits on offer, including discounted holidays for you, friends and family, as well as the opportunity to visit our destinations and experience our holidays as part of the job.

Join Us

So, if all things eCommerce is what’s in your career toolbox, and the prospect of being part of our award-winning, fun-loving, travel-mad team sounds like a bit of you, we’d love to hear from you and get a conversation going. Please send your CV with a brief covering note about your salary expectations and any notice period to our Recruitment team.
