Arts and Humanities (A&H) is a collaborative, innovative and collegial Faculty, committed to the holistic support, growth and development of its staff and Students. The Faculty is made up of c. 4,600 students and 815 staff who work across both UCL campuses in Bloomsbury and the Olympic Park, Stratford. Around 11% of UCL’s students (mainly Undergraduates) are taught in A&H, with our Home: Overseas ratio % in 23/24 being 53:47. Many of our degree programmes are highly competitive with demanding entry tariffs. With significant expertise in languages and area studies, study abroad and the international Student Experience are important elements of our education profile.
The Faculty Education Team
This is an exciting time to become the Head of Education and Student Experience (HESE) for A&H as it is the first time that we will have had a dedicated Faculty Education Team. A key initial task, therefore, will be to work with the to be newly appointed Director of Education and Student Experience (DESE) to build this team. The draft structure is in place already (see attached organogram) but will need review and refinement by the incoming leads.
The team is responsible for the delivery of teaching and learning activities and Student Experience support, and all relevant Quality Assurance (QA) and regulatory compliance matters for the Faculty. You and your team will be committed to excellent customer service.
About the role
As a key member of our Education and Student Experience (EASE) Team, you will be dedicated to supporting all who work/study in our subject areas. Reporting to the DESE, you will lead on supporting the successful operation of all our education programmes by ensuring an effective service infrastructure is both in place and compliant with academic policy and regulations, policy, and practice. You will oversee all areas relating to student support and experience; manage a team of EASE professionals and be an active participant in cross-UCL committees and networks to further the aims of A&H. This will all be combined with commitment to the highest possible standards of service to students and colleagues.
NOTE: UCL is currently reorganising its EASE function. This may result in changes to some of the specific duties and responsibilities of this position and/or its reporting line(s).The post holder will be expected to implement change and support continuous improvement as this change process is undertaken, and on an ongoing basis after this.

About you
The successful candidate will need to demonstrate the following criteria:
Educated to degree level or have equivalent qualifications or substantial relevant experience
Knowledge of Higher Education policy and current issues in Higher Education (within the UK, across Europe and globally).
Clear understanding of the complexity of Higher Education in relation to (i) student learning, (ii) maintenance of academic quality and standards and (iii) the broader Student Experience
Significant experience of managing quality assurance processes and systems and Performance Indicators, e.g. NSS/PTES/PRES scores to drive performance
Significant experience of leadership within HE, including management of staff and resources, and building teams.
Experience of finding solutions to a range of problems by applying sound judgment, empathy, and a strategic understanding of relevant issues.
Experience of managing change (cultural, procedural and/or organisational) in a complex multi-stakeholder environment
Excellent communication and negotiation skills to work with and through others.
A clear understanding of equality and diversity issues as they relate to the Student Experience and how the issues can be addressed by the role-holder.
Relevant and substantial experience of student support within an education setting and including a wide range of academic and pastoral support activities. Experience of the interface between these roles and central student services is also important.
