Head of Engineering – Bristol based (2/3 days a week in our office in Emersons Green)


£80,000-£90,000




We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head of Engineering to lead our team and manage our product development journey.



We have been scaling and developing the IONA system since our investment last year and we are looking to achieve further growth this year through additional funding, diversifying our product line and enhancing the IONA product. This is a key time to join as our Head of Engineering, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the technical direction of our company, managing a team, and driving results in a rapidly evolving market.

What skills and experience are we looking for?



  • Strong technical background with expertise in software development (hardware development is advantegous).
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to translate vision into actionable plans and initiatives.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to thrive in a high-pressure environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and mentor engineering teams, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a track record of delivering innovative solutions to complex technical challenges.
  • Experience in risk management, process optimization, and strategic planning.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to effectively convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Results-oriented mindset with a passion for driving innovation and delivering impactful results in a fast-paced environment.



The Responsibilities?



Team Management: Lead and manage a team of engineers, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to foster their professional growth and development.


Coaching and Mentorship: Take responsibility for coaching team members, providing constructive feedback, and fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.


Risk Management: Identify and manage technical risks, proactively addressing challenges to ensure the successful delivery of projects and initiatives.


Process Optimization: Implement efficient and scalable development processes to streamline workflows, improve productivity, and drive innovation.


Technical Strategic Direction: Provide strategic direction and technical leadership, aligning engineering efforts with company goals and objectives.


Problem Solving: Tackle complex technical problems with creativity and ingenuity, developing innovative solutions to overcome obstacles and drive progress.


Results-Driven: Drive results in a dynamic and rapidly evolving market, leveraging technical expertise and market insights to deliver impactful outcomes.
