We are looking for an experienced leader to become the Head ofBack Office (Head of Function) at RWE Supply & Trading (RWEST) - to join an international leading energy trading house which is in a period of growth. The Head ofBack Office will lead a team of around one hundred and twenty professionals across Essen (Germany), Swindon (UK) and Singapore, as well as provide the functional framework for the Back Office teams in Chicago (USA). 

In your role you will play a critical role in driving the future of the company, maintaining and further developing a high-performance Back Office team that can execute the company’s vision for both organic and inorganic growth. The main Back Office responsibilities include data and process management, custodian of accurate trade data and trade confirmations, exchange of securities (OTC collateral and exchange margining), volumetric operations and settlement. The role requires regular travel across our European-based locations and  occasional travel to the USA and Singapore. This is a wide and varied role with regular project responsibility and reports directly to the CFO of RWEST.
 

  • Oversee, promote and coordinate the work of the Back Office teams in Swindon, Essen and Singapore jointly with a management team of six direct reports
  • Work closely with the Regional CFO in America to provide a functional framework for the Back Office teams there and support regional growth
  • Responsibility for all Back Office support (see above department insights) to all business lines in the UK, Europe and Asia
  • Build and manage trustful working relationships with key stakeholders within the company, especially Front Office, and understand their needs and expectations
  • Ensure operational excellence at all times
  • Develop the Back Office function further to remain up-to-date on market, system and functional changes
  • Improve and drive harmonization, standardization and automation of Back Office systems and  processes
  • Further develop local Back Office organization and staff according to business requirements and driving efficiency
  • Steer and accompany essential projects like the commercialization of Renewables power generation, implementation of S4 Hana (SAP) into RWEST, develop and implement global strategy for clearing banks to support RWEST’s global business

Your powerful skills

  • Strong academic background - degree level
  • Extensive professional experience in leading teams, ideally of a commodity-trading house, in a banking environment or in a fast paced, ambitious international environment
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent communication skills on all management levels 
  • Leadership skills that drive high performance in line with the company’s values
  • Disciplined, pragmatic and fact-focused attitude with excellent commercial understanding
  • Team player and builder who leads by example and creates an inclusive environment, manages people with a human touch, creating a great place to work that inspires and motivates the team 
  • Ability to embrace and actively drive change 
  • Strong intercultural competence to manage a diverse team and work in a multicultural environment
  • Fluent in English, German an advantage
