Are you a dynamic leader with a passion for transforming HR operations and driving organizational excellence? Slough Borough Council is seeking a Head of HR Operations to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our council and delivering top-notch services to our 1,000-strong team.

At Slough Borough Council, we are committed to public service reform and delivering value to our residents. As the Head of HR Operations, you will be a key player in our HR Management Team, reporting directly to the Director of HR & Workforce Transformation.

What you'll be doing:

  • Lead and manage an effective HR Operations service, taking accountability for planning, finance, performance, people, change, and risk management.
  • Contribute to the service plan, preparing team plans that align with the wider HR&OD service area.
  • Provide high-quality HR services to 1,000 staff, including recruitment, contracts, onboarding, payroll, pensions, and leavers.
  • Organize and prioritize work to support self-service, allowing HR officers to focus on complex cases.
  • Drive continuous improvement in service quality, efficiency, and customer experience through innovation and new technologies.
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams to plan, procure, and implement commercial arrangements with suppliers.

What you'll have:

  • Professional qualification and full membership of CIPD or equivalent.
  • Substantial management experience leading high-performing HR services.
  • Excellent workforce planning, workload management, and demand management skills.
  • Strong negotiation skills and ability to work collaboratively across organizational boundaries.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and judgment.
