Job description

Are you a high achiever with an impressive fundraising or business development background, ready to channel your energy towards supporting young people through life-changing experiences?

This is a newly created Head of Income Generation role with Brathay Trust, ideal for the right candidate to shape and mould to suit them. It’s a perfect opportunity to progress your career and play a significant part in delivering the charity’s objectives.

Salary: £50-60k
Location: Hybrid, between home and Brathay’s beautiful location in Ambleside
Benefits: 30 days holiday (+ bank holidays and opportunity to buy extra days), 5% employer pension contribution

The role base is flexible, but you will be required to attend Head office in Ambleside on a regular basis, where your team and the rest of the senior leadership team are based. It is envisioned that this person will be a present and visible member of the senior leadership team. The charity has a flexible, life and family-friendly approach to working hours.

About the charity

Brathay is a special place. This is mostly evidenced by the sheer beauty of its main location, situated at the Head of Windermere in the Lake District. However, what makes Brathay extra special is the impact it has on all sorts of people. This could via the care, attention and expertise when supporting children, young people and their families in their communities; attending a residential experience; or via learning, self-reflection and capability improvement facilitated by their people and leadership development programmes. Brathay leaves long-lasting, positive impressions and memories.

About the role

As Head of Income Generation, you’ll play a key role in elevating Brathay towards the next phase of its development. The foundations are already in place, raising money (approx. £5m) from public sector contracts, trusts, foundations and corporates, fundraising events, community and philanthropy work. There is recognition that fundraising could be accelerated with the right leadership and skills in place… and that’s where we need you.

You’ll work towards translating Brathay’s 2030 vision into a clearly articulated, long-term fundraising strategy and break it down into tangible annual income targets. You’ll do this by focussing the charity’s fundraising efforts where there are opportunities to increase income from major relationships (trusts, corporate, major donor, and legacies) and bids/tenders through commissioned services. We understand the breadth of the ask and don’t expect someone to come with it all, but you will be able to demonstrate transferable relationship skills in your toolkit and six-figure partnerships in your personal track-record. You’ll therefore also need the ability to quickly get to grips with the nuances of new income streams and a willingness to take on new challenges.

You’ll have the backing of a Marketing and Communications lead, as well as income earning colleagues working on trusts, fundraising events, and corporate partnerships.

About you

Collaboration and communication: We’re looking for a collaborator; someone who can demonstrate well-honed internal and external engagement skills. You’re emotionally intelligent and able to influence and negotiate with a range of stakeholders, acting as a brilliant ambassador for Brathay.
Income generation: You’re a talented fundraiser or income generator in your own right (working upwards of six figures), able to demonstrate a substantial personal track record.
Leadership: You’re also a supportive leader of people, able to nurture and motivate teams to thrive in a complex, multi-faceted organisation.
Values: You’re a values-led individual who understands how to blend commercial acumen and entrepreneurship with the needs of a charitable organisation that is mission and purpose focused.

To apply: If you’re as excited by this role as we are, please get in touch with a copy of your CV or profile to Amelia Lee at Charity People in the first instance.

Deadline: Only because this opportunity has been previously advertised, we’ll be working on a rolling basis so please do get in touch asap if you are interested. If you feel this disadvantages you in any way, please contact Amelia Lee at Charity People and we’ll do our very best to make sure you don’t miss out.

Final deadline: 31st January
Interviews: First stage online, second stage in-person
