Job Title: Head of Technology Teacher

Reports to: Head Teacher
Supervises: Technology Department Staff (6 members)
Job Overview:
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of Technology Teacher to lead our Design and Technology department, encompassing areas such as design and technology, engineering, computer-aided design, and cookery. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a team of 6 staff, driving positive change, and ensuring the effective delivery of the curriculum. This role also involves serving as a form tutor within a designated year-group team, under the guidance of a Head of Year.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Management:
- Lead, manage, and inspire a team of 6 staff within the Design and Technology department.
- Implement and oversee positive changes in line with the school's strategic goals.
- Foster a collaborative and innovative working environment within the department.
Teaching and Learning:
- Deliver high-quality teaching in the field of Design and Technology.
- Monitor and evaluate teaching standards within the department, providing constructive feedback and support.
- Ensure the effective use of resources to enhance the learning experience for students.
Behaviour Management:
- Demonstrate effective principles of supportive behaviour management within the classroom and the department.
- Promote a positive and respectful learning environment.
Risk Management:
- Identify and manage risks associated with workshop activities and broader departmental practices.
- Ensure comprehensive and effective recording of risk assessment processes.
Information Technology Competence:
- Demonstrate competence with standard Information Technology applications, including the Office 365 suite.
- Utilize technology to enhance teaching and administrative tasks.
Management Information Systems:
- Utilize the school's Management Information System (Engage) effectively for administrative and reporting purposes.
- Ensure accurate and timely input of relevant data.
Problem-Solving:
- Demonstrate effective problem-solving skills, addressing challenges within the department and contributing to school-wide solutions.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Experience in managing a subject department or a team within an educational establishment.
- Successful track record of leading and managing change.
- Effective practitioner within principles of supportive behavior management.
- Experience in identifying and managing risks relevant to workshop activities.
- Competence with standard Information Technology applications, including Office 365.
- Experience using a school Management Information System (MIS) such as SIMS, iSAMS, or Engage.
- Effective problem-solving skills.
Education and Training:
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Design and Technology, or a related field.
- Teaching certification and relevant professional development.
