37.5 hours per week

£45,000 yearly salary equivalent + 30 days holiday (including bank holidays) + reduced rate staff loans + pension
This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated and driven candidate with substantial underwriting/loans experience to join a rapidly growing/well established organisation as a temporary Head of Lending.
Our client is a not-for-profit financial institution, whose goal is to give back to the local community by providing ethical finance products to those in need. Established over 20 years ago, they serve people who live in the greater London area.
They're looking for a Head of Lending with a high level of experience within a personal loans/underwriting setting to review and change the underwriting department whilst assisting in the continued improvement of the credit control department. This role will include the updating of policy, procedures, process and reporting management information, and the successful candidate will need to use both a high level of initiative and independence and their prior knowledge of loans, underwriting, and credit control functions.
This is a temporary, 3-month contract, during which time the candidate should be able to make an impact on the running of the loans/underwriting department (whilst also contributing towards a change to the credit control department), after which there could potentially be opportunities to progress onto a permanent role and even into senior management. This is an excellent opportunity for a candidate who is at a stage in their career at which they want to take on a challenge, make an impact on a company's direction, and elevate their career to the next level.
The ideal candidate would be somebody who has good experience at a high/management level within a loans/underwriting department, a solid understanding of the credit control function, and ideally who has previously contributed to optimising and/or overhauling processes & procedures and reporting on management information. If this sounds like you and you're ready for your next big career move, read on to find out more...
The role
Day-to-day responsibilities
* Conducting independent meetings & investigations to discover current working practices within the already established credit control and loans/underwriting departments (with more of a focus on the loans side)
* Creating a plan for change to develop, improve, and optimise the way that the current loans department operates
* Implementing the new policy, processes, and procedures within the department
* Taking the management information and extracting the data from the loans management system (Sercle) and using them to report to senior management and regulators
* Liaising with the credit control department to ensure that the new ways of working are cohesive with the organisation's collections processes
* Being the bridge between the goals of senior management and the needs of the staff within the department
Why would you want this role?
* Make a large impact on an organisation using your own initiative and ideas
* Work for a small/medium sized organisation so that your impact and reach will go much further than a similar role in a high street bank
* Work for a not-for-profit organisation, meaning that the impact you make changes people's lives for the better
* Excellent temp-to-perm opportunity to progress onto a higher position within the organisation. Please note this is not guaranteed
The Person
Essential
* Knowledge of FCA & PRA regulations around loans & underwriting
* Experience and competency in extracting, working with, and generating insights & reports from loans & underwriting data
* An excellent understanding of the policy, procedures, process and reporting management information necessary to make the credit control & loans/underwriting departments both run smoothly and comply with FCA & PRA regulations
* Confidence in making independent decisions, and feeling happy and able to undertake the task detailed above
* Able to develop a plan for how a loans/underwriting department should run and integrate with a credit control department independently and without guidance
* Able to produce & present reports to those who may not be completely technically or financially literate - excellent communication skills
Desirable
* Coming from a high street bank, building society, or credit union background
* Experience and competency in working with the Sercle software package for finances & loans
* Experience contributing to and/or managing the implementation of new policy, procedures, and processes within a loans/underwriting setting
Nice-to-have
* Credit control experience
* Senior management experience
* Experience contributing to and/or managing the implementation of new policy, procedures, and processes within a credit control setting
