Job description

SAINSBURY CENTRE

Head of Living Art
Ref: ALC1475
Salary on appointment will be £45,737 per annum, with an annual increment up to £52,841 per annum.

The Sainsbury Centre is a world-class art museum with a unique perspective on how art can foster cultural dialogue and exchange. Following a radical relaunch in 2023 the Sainsbury Centre is the first museum in the world to formally recognise the living lifeforce of art, enabling people to build relationships across an arts landscape.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Head of Living Art to join the Sainsbury Centre to provide leadership in the stewardship and management of the Sainsbury Centre Collection. You will have responsibility for the permanent collection overseeing conservation, loans, acquisitions, documentation, and collection research.

Key duties of the role include:

  • Strategic leadership: you will be a member of the Senior Management Team with shared responsibility for leading, building and sustaining a creative cultural organisation that is at the forefront of museum innovation and public engagement.
  • Professional leadership for Collections; overseeing all aspects of collections development including acquisitions, documentation, web-based catalogue, care, loans and access for researchers.

You will have a post graduate qualification (MA or PhD) in a relevant subject area of museum collections and experience of leading a professional gallery or museum team, including business planning, budgeting and all aspects of staff management and development.

This full-time post is available from 24 June 2024 on an indefinite basis.

Further information on our great benefits package, including 44 days annual leave inclusive of Bank Holidays and additional University Customary days can be found on our benefits page.

Closing date: 27 May 2024
The University holds an Athena Swan Silver Institutional Award in recognition of our advancement towards gender equality
