Job description

Liberty is looking for an exceptional Major Donor Manager.

This role, which reports to and works closely with Liberty’s Head of Philanthropy, is responsible for the delivery of our major donor programme. You will also manage three Philanthropy Officers (one focusing on legacies, one on trusts and foundations, and one on trusts and foundations/major donations).

We are seeking someone who holds Liberty’s values and ambitions close to their heart, as we work to ensure everyone in the UK is treated fairly, with dignity and respect.

This is a key role in making Liberty’s strategic priorities a reality on the ground. You will be responsible for identifying and securing income from major donors to support the work of Liberty, working with and supported by  the Head of Philanthropy, the Senior Leadership Team, the Board  and other colleagues to build brilliant relationships with members and key supporters.  Liberty has a strong database of prospects, and some history of Major donor fundraising. There is an existing small major donor portfolio,  major donor experience in-house, and a lot of excitement across the organisation about growing this income stream. We are committed to building a culture where the subject expertise of colleagues - from trans-rights to discriminatory, racist policing - is harnessed to support fundraising, and where there is a collective understanding that fundraising is an organisation-wide effort.

You will be a strategic thinker and bring a collaborative approach, able to engage, inspire and influence across teams. You will work relationally, and bring emotional intelligence and sensitivity to the work, understanding the context of a mission-driven organisation. You will also have strong external relationship building skills, and experience of successfully delivering a major donor, corporate, or relational trusts and foundations strategy in a comparable setting.

You will have line management experience, and a strong commitment to Liberty’s anti-oppression values and strategy. You will be able to think systemically, identifying and creating links between major donor, trusts and foundations, and legacy fundraising. You will also be keen to learn from and contribute to best practice across and beyond the sector.

We know this sounds like a lot, but you’ll be supported by a first-class team of specialists and a highly supportive and inclusive group of colleagues.

Liberty fully embraces flexible working and is committed to employee development. We aim to encourage people from all backgrounds to work with us and are particularly interested in hearing from people from minority backgrounds and all socio-economic sections of society. Liberty supports hybrid working, with a minimum of two days per week in the Westminster office.
