Job description

You will work with CMG Quadrumvirate as one of two Heads of Midwifery to support the development and progression of the Maternity and Neonatal Improvement Programme (MNIP) to achieve consistency of practice, high standards of care and innovation. The Head of Midwifery is key position within the Womens and Children's Clinical Management Group (CMG) and has a prime focus on the day-to-day operational delivery of high-quality standards of care across the inpatient and community service. Working in close partnership with the Director of Midwifery, Heads of Midwifery / Nursing, Deputy Chief Nurses, Womens & Childrens Senior Leadership Team, and Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland (LLR) System Partners you will contribute to the development of our new UHL Maternity & Neonatal Improvement Programme (MNIP), play an active role within the Local Maternity & Neonatal System (LMNS), as well get involved in the delivery of the LLR Women's Health Strategy. As one of two Heads of Midwifery together you will take responsibility for the leadership and line management of Midwifery and nursing across Womens and Maternity within the Clinical Management Group (CMG). The role: Has responsibility for the delivery of safe and clinically effective maternity & nursing care across the CMG In collaboration with the Director of Midwifery and Deputy Chief Nurse lead and manage the services by formulating long term, strategic plans Provides credible, visible and effective leadership, to the deputy Heads of Midwifery, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Consultant Nurses / Midwives, Matrons and the wider nursing and midwifery operational teams Contributes to the leadership of Midwifery and nursing within the Trust as a member key Nursing & Midwifery corporate and divisional meetings Provides advice, guidance and direction to other senior clinical and managerial colleagues on a range of matters as required Develops mechanisms to enable the Deputy Heads of Midwifery, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Consultant Nurses / Midwives, and Matrons to develop and strengthen their leadership and management skills to meet the responsibilities of their roles. Actively works to lead and empower midwives and nurses to develop and utilise their clinical leadership skills, enabling them to assume appropriate levels of authority to undertake their role effectively to support and develop the leadership within their wards and teams. Takes leadership on MNIP & LMNS Workstreams to support the delivery of Trust, national and local professional priorities and objectives. Demonstrates highly skilled leadership and develop clinical leadership in others and facilitate effective succession planning. Participates in Trust initiatives to develop and improve clinical practice and patient care, providing expert advice and current service provision future developments The Head(s) of Midwifery will work collaboratively to: Develop, maintain, and provide assurance on clinical and operational governance systems and processes, specifically clinical risk management, CQC and Maternity Incentive Scheme (CNST) standards, clinical policy and procedure and clinical quality Be accountable for the development and maintenance of robust systems and processes to monitor and report on incident management, patient experience outcomes, complaint management including resolution and the dissemination of learning to all members of the wider maternity team. Demonstrate a highly visible, compassionate and inclusive leadership style, which is underpinned by the values of the Trust. Working as a key clinical leader within the division, you will contribute to the overall achievement of the 6 standards of maternity and nursing excellence (Pathway to Excellence), playing a lead role in ensuring clinical standards are developed, maintained and monitored.
